I think that the 'problem' isn't only in BoinclogX, but is in the way that the API's handle I/O. If the API's could wait for the external access to finish then this 'problem' would go away. I don't know if this is possible, or what this might do to the API's runtime, and fixing this would take the developers away from their task of working on the science.

well the author of LogX could change his app to not "lock" files, and read them passively to allow boinc to use them as it needs to

there's no reason for it to lock files anyway, it should be unintrusive, the BOINC API shouldn't have to wait for some other app to finish reading it's files before the api/boinc can get to them

Be aware that BoinclogX doesn't play nice with Einstein@Home on remote systems. I found that Einstein WU's would error 10 and quit because of BoinclogX holding the data files open, so that they couldn't be renamed. It took us, Walt & I, a week of 'filmon' logging to find this out.

BoinclogX works ok on the local system, just has a problem with remote systems, but not with Seti or Climate Predition WU's.

does anybody knows why BOINC Spy needs a specific .NET Version ?

probably because of poor version checking code
i assume it's checking for a specific version, rather than for whatever version is needs, or higher

and because you haven't got the exact version it wants, it's throwing a fit
you might want to notify the author of this problem so he can fix it

back on line, I have answers ans questions:

to Appetiser: my (20+) clients have NO connetion to the Internet. In the past they got WUs via disk or USB Memory Stick, so even with shared folders I won't be able to get WUs. Am I right ?

to Lee Carrac: sorry, but I think we had a misunderstanding: Two of my computers (my privat ones) have conection via DSL. The other computers (at work) are in another place, connected via LAN, BUT NOT connected to the Internet.

to CJOrtega: no problem for me, because 100% for SETI (what else ? ;-))

But because of the "problem" for SETI and computers without Internet connection, this is not my primary this time.
So (again) 1st: does anybody knows why BOINC Spy needs a specific .NET Version ?

2nd does anybody have the correct working archiv of SetiSpy++ ?

Hum... now that explains a problem I was having! Two of my fastest remote Setiathhome only systems quit having their random hangs about twice a week when I turned BoinclogX off from accessing them. Not a single hang requiring a system Reset as of then, as BoinclogX is now restricted to the one system it is installed on.

Are you willing to enable shared folders within your LAN? If so have a look at BoincLogX as a means to monitor and keep historical info on the WUs crunched across multiple systems. I use it to monitor my two systems by sharing the BOINC folder as a network share.

I use the firewalls on the two systems to restrict access to the specific IP addresses and protocols for file sharing so as to minize the exposure should one system get infected.

Hello all,

as a lonely cruncher without any team, I tried to work as best as I can for my own. In the past I used some addons like SETIHide or SETI Commander. With these programs I could distribute WUs to other computers via Disk or USB, because they are connected via LAN, but had, have and will not have any Internet connection.
So I loose 90 % of my computer power when switching to BOINC.
But now I have another problem with downloaded addons:

1. BOINC Spy needs .NET Version 2.0.40607. So I went to Microsofts .NET-side and downloaded the newest Version 2.0.5xxxx. Then starting the setup.exe from BOINC Spy --> "Please download the newestes .NET Version 2.0.40607. ????? Where is the bug ???

2. In a second for BOINC Spy I got a "wrong" link to SETI Spy. "The famous addon from Roloef...". But the downloaded selfextracting archiv is starting with an error message: "... archiv not correct.... ". I tried several other possibilities, but without any effords.

My last info is that TRUX is programming a Version with is able to download WUs for other computers...
