Another thing that you may want to try is to run it without any screensaver and see how much faster it will process a work unit.

Most of us ran the screensaver at first but once you start getting the SETI fever you may start shutting everything down that your computer does that isn't absolutely vital so you can crunch work units faster.

That site hasn't been updated for quite some time now. I should probably email Rick about that. If you're running Panther, then yes, the most updated clients are there, but if you're running Tiger (and especially if you have a G5), you're better served by going to the relevant MacNN forum thread and getting clients from there.

(This post is mostly for general reference, since the same thing is being discussed in this Mac Q&A thread. Hopefully when we all get our website-related act together, I'll make a more proper post regarding the Mac optimized clients.)

The Wiki has an article on Screen Saver & Graphics Display, which specifically gives step by step instructions on how to have the BOINC display look nearly like the Classic, but in so doing it gives good general instructions on customizing the SETI@Home display.

I take it you're using the cruncher that "comes automatically when downloading the Seti project", the "default" cruncher. This cruncher is the slowest one available and it would be a very wise investment of effort to ditch that cruncher and use an alternate cruncher, authored by Crunch3r and several colleagues, located at a Website called "Guntec". You'll find it in this forum or possibly in the BoincWiki. It should calculate a full twice as fast, and it will do away with the pretty, undulating graph tray entirely, which wastes processor resources. An alternate cruncher is located at "Marisan" but it is a bit slower. I'm using the latter because I can't mount Guntec on my older machine.

I always seem to get 70% into things like this only to find that they doi not work on the Mac platform ...

Is there anything that can be done to stop the Seti graphic moving around like it does?
Is there a 'stop' button?
I get sea-sick watching it ... oh yes you can stop it by clicking on it for a few mins ...
But then the blasted thing starts up again ...

You can stop the graphics in your settings....SETI@home preferences
control resource share and customize graphics..........Primary (default) preferences........experiment but set it all to 0....
