Is there any working screensaver for seti with linux/kde. I can't find one. that seems to be kind of pitiful given the number fo open source geniuses we have.

The screensaver, like you know from Mac or Windows are not available on Linux. But it is a little bit other thing on the unix clients...

But on the third party site (http://boinc.berkeley.edu/download_other.php) are boinc managers from mandrake and debian listed.
Normaly, you can click on the WU in the boinc manager and click to "show graphics" to see what the WU is crunching. But I am not shure if the graphics feature is included in one of this third party releases.

No. I think a attitude like yours is pitifull, and offense to the seti team and all the volunteers.
Berkeley has limited resources. A lot of things are/was done by volunteers.
Each feature and enhancedment will weighted and priorised. So not every feature will be ported to each other platfroms.

I think you are thinking of KBoincSpy. It has a star chart and detailed stats on the WU's crunched among other features. The lack of a screensaver is a result of a problem with Opengl in the Seti client.

Maybe if a few of these mystical "open source geniuses" helped the project, the problem wold be resolved. But they seem to busy navel gazing and bitching about KDE and Gnome to do so :(

PS: The volunteer developers for BOINC and SETI do an amazing job - we could just do with a few more.

Perhaps you need to re-evaluate why you're running seti in the first place: for the good of a large and voluntary project with a potentially mind-blowing outcome - or just for some dinky little eye-candy?

I would not mind to have "some dinky little eye-candy" screensaver, since i'm donating ;), plus M$ has it....
Personally, i don't see why i should not have it. Is it a bad thing to have?

If we want to go into resources/cost "war" - then lets do a simple math and see how much would it cost to buy the computing power project has for free vs writing a simple screensaver...

If i knew how to write it + had time - why not.
