Not that it's anything we need to worry about, ;-P but Kryten's mostly red on the status page right now.

Curiouser and curiouser. I just finished a WU, and it validated straight away although the validators are all red.

Ah, I see - the status page hasn't updated for the last 40 minutes.

Definitely panic mode on

I am starting to Panic now.

The last time all was well and there was nothing to get into a Panic about, I remember thinking, "Now all hell is going to break lose." I was a bit concerned about them "Moving the old Seti@home server out of the closet the next after noon." So the next morning there was a power failure and we really had Panic fits for a week.

Hum... Its already Monday morning and after a quite weekend the Berkeley Staff will for sure be up to something today... Think I will bump my cache up a few tenths just to be on the safe side.

You could do what's recommended when there's no SETI work to crunch... look for panic in other projects... 8-D

SZTAKI Desktop Grid has been a bit of a roller-coaster recently: I signed up just at the end of a batch of enormous WUs with short deadlines. In an effort to correct the problem the project started issuing extremely tiny WUs, which was OK for occasional crunchers but had dedicated systems using up their quotas. The server must have been getting hammered with communication traffic as well. So they started ramping up the size, but too quickly, I guess: BOINC clients, having registered the short return times, were downloading WUs by the bucketful, but all of a sudden they were taking ten or twenty times as long as expected. Anyway, now I've got one machine with hundreds of hours (if not over a thousand) of crunching to do in five days; it went into EDF mode right away but a little arithmetic makes it obvious a lot of deadlines will be missed.

So, for anyone looking for a little excitement--and who would like to contribute to another kind of science--I'd recommend SDG wholeheartedly.

I am running one 4way xenon box (PII) that used to be our mail server for our division. I just could not bear then tossing it to the dump. Dang thing weighs in at over 200# I need to look for a few extra disks on e-bag. Already have one out. :( Seems like those 10K RMP hot plug drives are just not long lived.

Now there's an idea. I could start a new project and run it off our old mail server that has a couple harddisks that are at death's door and spewing errors regularly. I'm sure it would be down more than up, and when all is well elsewhere, it would give us all a place to go and fret.

ask bruno to add it to the BOS image and try to get the lowest uptime % out of all the projects ;)

currently XtremLab is winning with only 62.43%
but they've been away for a while, so dunno if that counts
the next worst is BURP with 71.53%
followed closely by PrimeGrid with 78.96%

so there's plenty of room there, none of them have even got below the 50% mark yet, i think 30% is achievable thou :p

They have taken a break.
The glitches went away.

I looked through the Berkeley tier routers that the Scheduler and the Message board goes through and saw nothing there that would indicate a problem. There is a lot of other campus traffic that could cause problems or hide Seti traffic.

Message board and one of the two IP addresses of the scheduler goes through this router right now and the other scheduler IP address goes through this router on the way to the SSL building.

These are the last hop that you see on a tracert before the lab servers.

Damn... I missed it... is it too late for me to panic??

No.
Its doing it again.
This time the Message Board server and the Scheduler server is having some sort of connectivity problem. I see them both going in and out and dropping pings. Failures attempting to post, then a minute later it works. Must be some sort of gremlin running around the lab playing with the cables or switches.
