I am wondering if any of thiss in reference to the link of my singing that I provided?

This is/was not in reference to your link. Take my word on this.

In that case ... Wonderwall by Oasis (for you Brits) and Would? by Alice in Chains (for those of you thst thought Seattle was cool in 1991). As performed by ... SARGE!!! :)

heh, pat benatar is more difficult for you. ;) But pat was trained as an opera singer.
You're better with bette midler. Got any Nancy Wilson karaoke? something tells me you'd be the perfect match.

I see no link for a Pat Benatar song. But good job on "Winds of Change."

Thank you Sarge! Misfit actually surfed a little further to find that, but if you'd like to hear one here's a link: http://www.kaleste.com/Tunes/Heartbreaker.mp3

Heartbreaker nice effort Kaleste i love the echo effect on the voice.

I love karaoke and i used to be in a pub covers band when i was young but along with my youth i lost the bravado to sing in public. Now i can still sing but i cant get up till i am drunk.

aarrrggghhhh i have to admit to being personaly responsible for some really bad drunken karaoke.

LOL

I was quite proud of that recording. Up until two months prior to it I'd never sung a high note without screaming in my life so was thrilled to death to be able to hit the notes without hurting myself!

Surely thats what makes karaoke so funny to the observer ;-)

But of course. How often does your band perform?

Last year I was in not one, not two, but three bands. A glutton for punishment I guess ;) In band #1 one I was the bass player who also played keys, guitar, & sang, and we had the elusive house gig every Tuesday. In band #2 I was the keyboard player who also played bass, guitar, & sang, and we gigged about two weekends a month. Band #3 formed mid-year, and in that I'm the lead singer/lead guitarist, but we haven't played a full night yet. Band #1 fell apart in November, and I decided to leave band #2 at the end of the year to focus on band #3, which just lost it's drummer! My bass player and I are working on originals until we find a replacement, but we just started looking so hopefully it won't take too long. Here's a live recording with band #2 last July. It was recorded pre-FX at the board so the mix is not the best and the vocals are raw, but it's me :)

Your singing is pretty good, I've always been jealous of people that can sing because I just can't. I know what the notes should be, but they never come out right :-(

Just think, when your band is famous we can say we knew you here!!

Kaleste: They were recorded last night, straight to my laptop. I use a freeware program called "Audio Grabber." (Watch the volume levels on your microphone!) Best quality can be found by recording straight to a .wav file, which has the highest (sampling?) rate. Afterwards, I used the same program to normalize volume, followed by using the standard "Audio Recorder" that comes with Windows to trim the talking and other music before and after the actual performance plus to increase or decrease te volume as necessary. Last, I switched formats to .mp3 with 320 kbps sampling rate using a third program simply called "Switch."

Why record this stuff? To have examples to provide if I can convince some local musician to consider collaborating with me. Other than that, for the listening pleasure of myself and others. If they do not find it pleasurable, I suppose they can get a good laugh!:)

If you'd like to hear more, visit my website by clicking here. Quality will vary. I recorded an acoustic mic show at a coffee shop only to learn later that the male end of the mic jack was bent. :( I could only do so much with audio editing programs to reduce the humming noise and take out clicking.

If I weren't proctoring a test right now, as I type, I'd listen to "Heartbreaker" and "Tom Sawyer." I'll try to remember come back and listen to those later.

Oh, and to any ladies wondering ... there should be a new pic on my profile in a few days. ;) (It shall reflect that even math teachers/graduate students can look both professional and rock out! :) )

I have lots of PC toys for recording, etc... but never heard of that one, will have to look into it. Have you ever heard of Transcribe? If not, you should check it out. You can change the tempo and key of a song, just like on a karaoke machine, and even pretty much remove the vocals from a song and make it into karaoke. It's one of the few shareware programs I ever found that I thought was worth buying beyond the 30 day trial period. http://www.seventhstring.com/

Thanks ES! I've always been jealous of people who can dance, but I guess we can't all be good at everything :) As far as singing, the hardest part is not being too nervous to do it. Karaoke is far more difficult in my opinion than performing on stage with a band because it's you alone with just a microphone, no crutch.
Just think, when your band is famous we can say we knew you here!!
I wish! Having some raw talent is one thing, but writing a song people will actually like and being able to sell it is another thing entirely. I'm always afraid people are gonna hate it!

I haven't heard of "Transcribe," but I have run across some other programs that allow changing tempos and keys. I'm not sure if any allowed for the removal of the original singing.

One advantage to my approach, in my mind, is that as I am trying to use these files to provide samples to local musicians in order to help convince them to collaborate with me, they get to hear the highlights and even some of my flaws as I attempt certain songs or styles on the spot in front of an audience.

Oh, and I have now listened to "Heartbreaker" and "Tom Sawyer." I am tempted to download some of these and re-record with my voice added in for duets ... but perhaps that is way too presumptuous of me? ;)

Actually, Bette Midler stuff lends itself better to harmonies, and it's stuff you can even do at karaoke virtually any place you go. Try one of these: http://www.kaleste.com/Tunes/TheRose.mp3 or http://www.kaleste.com/Tunes/WindBeneathMyWings.mp3

I'm a big time Heart fan, but I can't stand Rush. It's not their music, it's their singer's voice.

Geddy has rarely used the high-pitched squeal in recent years. Since at least 1987's "Hold Your Fire," he's done more to accentuate bassiness in his singing (and not just his playing).

I think the reason he stopped doing that is the same reason I had to retrain my voice, because he was hurting himself. Singing "wrong" or constantly forcing notes out that hurt can seriously damage the vocal cords. For someone who doesn't sing very often then it's no big deal, but when done regularly over time a person can lose those high notes, like a lot of old rock singers do. Haven't you ever noticed how most of the screamers stop screaming with old age?

Like, say, Robert Plant? :)

I think there may be an additional reason for Geddy's change in singing style. It lends itself to sounding like a rational man with deep running emotions, which matches the lyrics written by Neil Peart.

Back In The Saddle - Aerosmith

I'm back!
I'm back in the saddle again
I'm back!
I'm back in the saddle again

ridin' into town alone by the light of the moon
I'm lookin' for old Sukie Jones, she crazy horse saloon
barkeep gimme a drink, that's when she caught my eye
she turned to give me a wink, that'd make a grown man cry

I'm back in the saddle again
I'm back!
I'm back in the saddle again
I'm back!

come easy, go easy, all right until the rising sun
I'm calling all the shots tonight, I'm like a loaded gun
peelin' off my boots and chaps, I'm saddle sore
four bits gets you time in the racks, I scream for more
fools' gold out of their mines, the girls are soaking wet
no tongue's drier than mine, I'll come when I get back!

I'm back in the saddle again
I'm back!
I'm back in the saddle again
I'm ridin', I'm loadin' up my pistol
I'm ridin', I really got a fistful
I'm ridin', I'm shinin' up my saddle
I'm ridin', this snake is gonna rattle
I'm back in the saddle again
I'm back!
I'm back in the saddle again
I'm back!
ridin' high!
ridin' high!
ridin' high! already!

No matter where you go, there you are...
