As I work on this project (Firefox BOINC Stats) certain changes and new features come to mind.
I would appreciate feedback and opinions from potential users on the following:

1) Addition of a BOINC User stats entry.
2) Use of BOINC User stats as default info displayed when firefox is started.
3) Option to select which project's stats are displayed when firefox is started.
4) Option to use last displayed stats the next time firefox is started.
5) Display project icons enabled as default.
6) Saving last known stats for projects.
Reason: Rather than displaying "data unavailable" (to me) it seems preferable to display last known stats with a modified icon (with a red X overlay?) to indicate the project's current stats are unavailable.

I have used the Seti@Homes stats for some time now and I think that the proposals that you are making do make sense. I was going to question feature no. 3, but realised that there are many users out there that do not have S@H as there main project.
Can't wait for this version to be released!
One other thing.....the update frequency, although set to .5 hrs, does in my experience take some time to actually sync. with the web sites current total! can this be addressed or is it an xml issue?.

tekwyzrd,

I think all six of your ideas are well thought out enhancements to the Firefox extension! Thank you for taking your valuable time and utilizing your skills to improve the tools used by the Seti/BOINC community!

Interesting idea.
I'll add it to the list.

@ tekwyzrd:

Well, it's been 4 days now and I still haven't heard from TamCaP. I'm thinking he's no longer interested in the extension. Let me know if you want Chris Means e-mail address. He did say he would release the other extension project which was used by TamCaP.

It looks like things are really taking off for you. I like your proposals below. I'm thinking that it's now time for me to bow out. I think I will take down my download page this weekend, maybe next weekend. It will all depend on when you can release your version. Let me know when you do.... (-:<

Please, don't bow out.
It'll take me a while to set up an appropriate page and I think your instructions would be useful to those installing the extension.
It might be a good idea if I email Chris Means.

For those interested the first version, boincstats v0.1.0 is available.

As it is still being propogated to the sourceforge mirrors the best download sites may be those in the US. If it is unavailable at the server you've selected try another server. If you are downloading from sourceforge you can either allow sourceforge as an installation source or right click on the link and save the boincstats.xpi file to a directory of your choosing and install it manually.

Notes:

Currently capable of displaying stats for:

Climate Prediction
Einstein@Home
Pirates@Home
Predictor@Home
Rosetta@Home
SETI@Home
SETI@Home Beta
SIMAP
SZTAKI Desktop Grid
uFluids@Home

Projects have been alphabetized.
The first enabled project will be displayed when Firefox is started.
LHC@Home has temporarily been removed due to problems displaying stats.
For some projects stats are unavailable if RAC (Recent Average Credit) is 0.
Please uninstall sahuserstats and restart Firefox before installing boincstats.

I am making this version available for testing and feedback purposes. It should be considered a beta version.
The changes mentioned previously in this thread will be implemented in future versions of this extension.

tekwyzrd,

You forgot LHC from your projects list! If you could please include it in the next update, it would be great. [edit, sorry, saw that it's currently having problems]

Thanks so much for keeping this extension alive!!

There's a difference between my install instructions and installing after download from an extension project on Mozilla.org. My instructions is for the actual file on the users HD. When downloaded from Mozilla.org, install is done through the Extensions Tool in Firefox.

If you're just going to have your own download page, just copy/paste the instructions from mine. I believe you would get better coverage, though, if you go through a project on Mozilla.org. Plus it may garner more crunchers when they see the extension and read what it's for.

I'll keep my page up until you're ready. Remember, the version I have is the original multi-project, updated for FF v1.5, it's not your version. I sent an e-mail.... (-:<

I have installed the new BOINC Stats 0.1.0 and have it working - the only observations I have are:

1. Climate Prediction is showing "Data Unavailable". A little distracting since it is the first listed project.

2. No project ICONS are displayed. - Is it possible or is it too much?

Many, many thanks for all your hard work on a most useful extension.

(edit)Only SZTAKI and ufluids not tested on my install as I don't run them. All others work fine(end edit)

Great improvment on the original; keep up the good work!

I am getting "Data Unavailable" for Rosetta@Home

Otherwise my most useful extension is working perfectly!

Congratulations

What name are you going by at Rosetta@Home?

Stats show unavailable on some projects where the user's RAC is zero (as is the case if the name you use there is the same as you use here).

The option to display icons is located in the preferences settings:

Tools\\Extensions\\BOINC Stats\\Preferences\\

The Display Project Icons checkbox is at the bottom.

I am using the same 'name' on all of my projects.
My RAC on Rosetta, although low, is not zero

Oops, works fine now. And since I don't plan on doing any more Climate on this comp then I'll just untick the box.

That explains ALL my F"£K ups then.

Many, many thanks.

Very nice job.
