Is this feature temporarily disabled..or permanent? From Technical News: February 1, 2006 - 22:30 UTC We took the database crash on Monday as a reminder that we really should upgrade our MySQL engine. We were running 4.0. Today during the usual outage we upgraded to 4.1. After the usual data backup, the procedure couldn't have been simpler. Basically we untar'red the new version, moved the data symlink in place, and started it up. We individually tested each back-end process and it all worked well, so we started everything up. Immediately the database server ground to a halt. We figured this had something to do with new innodb table locking issues and twiddled those parameters. We also rebuilt several indexes, all to no avail. Eventually we discovered the one query that would appear behind which everything was piling up: the "merge hosts" update. This is a function on our web site to allow users to combine hosts that for one reason or another show up as multiple hosts in our database. Who could have predicted this would be the culprit? So we shut it off until we figure out exactly why. The reigning theory: this is the only update to an innodb table via php, and we may have to recompile php to pick up newer MySQL libs. Anyway, we're back up now, and will hopefully remain so for the night. ... "I'm trying to maintain a shred of dignity in this world." - Me ![]() |

I hope they get it going again because I want to merge an older host with the same host but newer OS. |

It's temporarily offline - but the fix is low priority right now. Many other bigger fish to fry for the moment. - Matt -- BOINC/SETI@home network/web/science/development person -- "Any idiot can have a good idea. What is hard is to do it." - Jeanne-Claude |

I hope they get it going again because I want to merge an older host with the same host but newer OS. I'm sure it will, but give them some time, please. They're doing the best they can with the means they have. "I'm trying to maintain a shred of dignity in this world." - Me ![]() |
