At what point does the CC boinc start doing better claiming better credits?

This machine: http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/show_host_detail.php?hostid=2148393

uses boinc-5.3.12.tx36, but still is claiming arount 3-4

How long does it take before it starts claiming?

It should be climbing a little bit with every result. If you look at the results for that computer, it looks like it isn't even trying. Make sure you have the line

<calibrate_credit>SETI@Home</calibrate_credit>

in the truxoft_prefs.xml file that lives in the main boinc directory.

I don't have that file, so I created it.

Mon 06 Feb 2006 03:20:04 AM EST||truXoft add-on: calibrate_credit = all

now it sees it...we shall seee :)

I did notice this error onthe failed WU's :

<core_client_version>5.2.13</core_client_version>
<message>process got signal 4
</message>
<stderr_txt>

</stderr_txt>

can I get some advice on which optimized app to use?

You could try this one.

Nope :/ It it failed on that app.

Perhaps you meant you are using the optimized application?

Correct. My mistake.

I am using an optimised client and not an optimised BOINC Manager.

They are one in the same. Perhaps you meant you are using the optimized application?

I will now follow RalphT5's example and set my Xeon rig to run 3 WUs at the same time, when the currrent group of 4 are near 100%.

RalphT5 - the gain using 3 of 4 processors seems to be higher, but only by 7%. This is based on a very limited run though.

I am using an optimised client and not an optimised BOINC Manager. This combination, using 2 processors only, claims lower credit. But the given credit seems to make up for the difference.

For my rig it is very marginal (total daily credit wise) whether running 2 or 3 processors is best.

so , linux is two times faster , right ?!

No, I believe it is a combination of Linux *and* running the optimized app.

hi Michael , what optimized seti app and boinc client do you use on these computer ?!

Measured floating point speed 7388.22 million ops/sec
Measured integer speed 2810.62 million ops/sec

lol , do u overclok it or what .... !? mine p4 3ghz HT on , crunch a wu for ~7000sec and yours crunch a wu for 5000sec ...

Viktor

And I wanted to add that i wish I could merge those two machines. merging Hosts is still offline...

2148393 is the old 2107170, same machine, different OS.

I crunch it now in about 3700 seconds using Linux. I do not overclock my machines, ever.

Turning back to Crunch3r's "optimised client" web site -

http://www.guntec.de/Crunch3r/setix86.html

- I see I had a choice of picking from 2 optimised clients to download, under the part of the page relating to "Seti@Home for Windows". These were set out in 2 columns -

Downloads: Older versions (with the word older heading 1 column and the word versions heading the other column. The latter is immediatly under "downloads:).

Having had some time playing with different optimised clients, mainly those Crunch3r kindly provided, I can say for my rig the older Pentiun3 SSE2 client seems to be the best one. Thanks Crunch3r.

The gain I make, when running 4 S@H at the same time looks to be between 8,400 and 9,000 seconds. This was against the original average, before, of 11,000 seconds. This means the further optimised client allows a further gain of 18% to 22.5%.

I will now follow RalphT5's example and set my Xeon rig to run 3 WUs at the same time, when the currrent group of 4 are near 100%.

I can't find (or maybe I am blind?) the correct optimized app to run.

You could try this one.

krneki

I benchmarked this machine so I have measured my optimal performance is to turn HT on (2 physical CPUs & 4 logical CPUs) and crunch on 3 of the 4 logical CPUs.

You are correct sir!
