I wonder how the Microsoft SP2 Update is going to affect our Hosts List. All my Computers show the SP1 Update & I figure if I was to update to the SP2 then the next time they are Benchmarked they will show the SP2 Update and I probably wont be able to merge the Computers then...???

Good question. I don't know but it is possible.
I want to do some reading before updating to SP2
I think I have heard some bad comment about it.

It should affect the host list, some time ago i moved the SP information to a part of the table that won't cause a new host record to be created.

it should just update the existing host record, that is, if you don't detach and reattach.

Same here Petit, I'm in no hurry to Update to it until I see what other people are saying about it after they update to it...

Ok Rom, it's good to hear that, now only if enough people read this and don't go off detaching and reattaching & then flood the boards with complaints about not being able to merge hosts...

I have just installed SP2 on 2 of my machines.
All seems to be just fine.

Just thought i'd let you know in case anyone was worried about the effect it may have with Boinc

BOINC apparently created a new account on mine, abandoning 11 WU, and dumping as many as 30 results. Only thing i did was install SP2.

I have SP2 on 3 computers now and all updated fine, with no loss of work units etc. For installing SP2, I did close down Boinc first. Whether installing SP2 while Boinc is running causes a problem, i cant say, tho i doubt it.

FYI

Recently I upgraded one computer from Xandros desktop 1 to desktop 2 and it did not create a new host.

I installed the SP2 update on 1 PC and the only problem I seems to have so far is I must have picked up an about:blank spyware or something like that anyway.

When I click on a Internet Shortcut all that happens is a blank page opens up with the about:blank url showing, then if I click on the same shortcut again the proper page will load and show up. It's more of a nuisance than anything but I'll have to figure out a way to get rid of it I guess.

PS: I just checked my computers and it did create another host & doesn't show the SP2 update either. I just deleted the new host for now. I'll have to see what it shows after I re-benchmark the computer, it might show up properly then...

I updated to SP2 this PM and had no problems. Just restarted the BOINC client and let it "talk" to the project. Eventually the host was updated to show SP2. No new host ID was created.

I went to WindowsUpdate, looked around for SP2. Couldn't find it. I found where it wanted people to turn on automatic updates in order to get SP2, but I couldn't find SP2 itself. So I downloaded and installed all of the other updates I needed. Still not there. I checked MS's site main site and they say to enable automatic update to dowload it and that they are "preparing" the service pack for release. I feel kind of stupid asking this, but I'm not finding it on the MS sites, and since many of you say that you've installed it, it does exist somewhere. So, am I just missing it or is there a good reason I'm not finding it?

I have enabled automatic (My Computer -> Properties -> Automatic update) update but no WinXP SP2 activity. It is downloadable but there is not easy accessible link on M$ page, I think. There are some Links (it has 270MB) for download but who trust it? I don't.

This is where the full download for MS XP SP 2 is located it is a 272.4 MB download so if you don't have a broadband connection forget about it! I've installed SP2 on both XP Pro and XP Home no problems with the downloaded SP 2 file.

Hope you have good luck with it you just never know!! What worked for me may not for you.
