Taking that part of your post as the only quote, it shows you have a timeout problem. Boinc manager will start before Boinc does. If Boinc starts at all.

So try to use the delay program, to delay the startup of Boinc Manager by 60 seconds. Should be enough time for your PC to start up, read all programs, read the page file.

But I must say one thing: Outlook/Outlook Express will take port 1043 at times. So if you have either loading up at boot time as well, make sure it loads AFTER BOINC!

One instance is running - 5,288k ram. The status bar at the bottom right of the boinc screen says disconnected. Does this program use a strange port (we do have a firewall)?

One instance of only Boincmgr.exe? No Boinc.exe? No Seti cruncher?

BOINC does use some "strange" ports, yes. This page will tell them all.

Ok I think you are on to something. boinc.exe is NOT running in the list. I wanted to check out the delay thing so I launched Boincmgr manually. No joy. So, I ran boinc.exe. It ran and sent my results to seti. So, I again ran Boincmgr. No joy. Still cannot connect to host (local host). I tried the 127.0.0.1 (my password field was blank so I left it blank). No joy.

When all screens in Boinc Manager are blank, check that Boinc.exe is running. In Windows NT/2k/XP, rightclick on the Windows taskbar and choose Task Manager. Go to the processes tab and check if Boinc.exe is running. Check how many versions of Boincmgr.exe there are running.

If more than 2 of the latter, close them all down and restart one.
If Boinc.exe isn't running, please try a reboot of the computer first.

My BOINC for seti at home has lost connection and won't re-setup. All screens are blank. I can't re-link using the wizards.

I tried the ping -f -l 1400 setiboinc.ssl.berkeley.edu test and it works fine.

I am a classic user from 1999. It worked for a while in Nov & Dec 2005 but failed recently in Jan 2006 and hasn't come back.
