Extra extra don't leave without it. :)

Close down BOINC as far as it is running.
Navigate to your Boinc directory.
Find the file called gui_rpc_auth.cfg and delete it.
Then restart BOINC.
That will most probably fix it.

(When you revert back to 4.45 you need to delete this file as well!)

I will try that when I am in the office tomorrow
BUT I tried doing the "local host" with no password thing and got back "wrong password"
I tried reinstalling BOINC - both versions - (old and new) - that did not work. I did a reboot but not a turn off turn on - I will try that and let you know

Ok, that makes a difference. Please try the following first: Open Boinc Manager, go to File->Select Computer and fill in localhost or 127.0.0.1 in the top box. Don't change the bottom box. Hit OK.

If that doesn't work: Shut down that PC. Not reboot it, just shut it down.
Wait a minute, then reboot it. If that fixes things, then it's ok.

Else you have a time out bug going on. That means that Boinc Manager starts before Boinc.exe does. If Boinc.exe ever starts even.

In that case you either delete the link to Boincmgr.exe from the Windows StartUp folder, or use this delay program to delay it far enough so it starts well after everything else, or you may want to reinstall BOINC as a service. But the latter needs an administrator account with a password.

Only BOINC, 5.2.13, nothing anywhere - it is as if I have never used it.
Yes windows updated BUT it did so on all 3 of my PC's and only one has ceased to function
This is making me crazy

If you go to Boinc Manager, the Messages tab, can you copy & post here the messages in there? Which BOINC version are you using by now? Did anything change on the PC? Windows update or something?

I returned from vacation to find that BOINC is now blank! NO project, no data, nothing. It tells me it cannot connect. When I type in the http:// setiathome.berkeley.edu and my accoutn key and try to connect to that computer it tells me it cannot connect.
When I try to add the project suing the same uRL and my account key - nothing happens. i have tried reinstalling BOINC, I have tried different versions of BOINC. I have two other pc's where it runs just fine. WHat am I missing here?
