oh tell me you didn't just type out the log. If you start to the right hand side of the log, left click and drag, you can highlight specific parts of the log, then pick "copy selected" and then right click and paste them here. click on "projects", "attach to project", then enter the URL and Key you recieved in the email. I'd prefer you to go to "your account" log in with the key and then make a password, then when you go through the attachment wizard, pick "use existing account", and use your email and password (not key) to attach hope this helps tony |

Yes, 4707 results is correct. The seti client stopped processing & updating (using the old 3.3 client and SetiSpy) about 3 weeks ago and its been at 4707 ever since. That's why I decided to try BOINC. I was looking forward to going past 5000 this year. The things you told me to do I've done numerous times with the same result as described in the "other" query I sent and which you replied to. e.g. I get "failed" when attemting to add the seti project. The other thing that happens is the project shows up in the projects tab for a short time and then disappears when an error message is returned from BOINC? SETI? The imprtant messages evidently are: "CGI error 500" and "no schedulers responded" and "Couldn't connect to URL http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/" I tried appending the full message text from BOINC, but the reply would not upload. If you'd be interested in seeing the next set of Messages logs, please send me your email address to lennyw at comcast dot net. I wonder if "Failed" it has something to do with the fact that I changed my logon and password today using the "form" that Seti provides for that purpose? Maybe one of their servers has it and another doesn't? Anyway, I sure hope you have a few more ideas!! |

When I attempt to look at your puters I see this, it is blank. This confirms you're failing to attach to the project. What is the Exact message you get when it fails to attach(the message in the attachment wizard, NOT messages tab. |

Open a command prompt box (Start-All programs-accesories-Command prompt) then type in: ping setiathome.berkeley.edu hit enter, do you see any errors? |

OK, this is getting stranger by the minute. Open a command prompt box and enter: Tracert to setiathome.berkeley.edu: 26 hops. 1st hop times out but then it continues and gets there. Tracert (set to 30 hops max) to setiboinc.ssl.berkeley.edu: times out after the 1st hop but then it continues until the 24th hop. Hops 25 - 30 all time out. 24th the hop is g6-1.inr-230-333333spr.berkeley.edu (128.32.255.110).Did it twice same results each time. |

so you can reach the scheduling server but not the Kryten the upload/download server. I'm wondering about MTU size. Let me look up something |

Want to try something? download Dr. TCP. Record the current MTU size, then reduce it to 576 temporarily. try the attachment wizard and traceroute of the failed DNS. If it works at a lower MTU setting, then tell me what the former MTU was. Now go back to the original MTU size and retry traceroute, then adjust it downward until it succeeds, then leave it there. If the Original was 1500 then you'll probably find it works down around 1400. tony |

Hi mmciastro asked me to call by. Can lennyw get the script I wrote off the wiki then he can trace to each host and we can see what is what perhaps. There are problems right now at UCB with their network. I just attached a laptop as a trial and it worked OK. If lenny can run it amd send the results to me at john_brown_gordon at ntlworld.com then I will take a look and see what the problem might be. Mighr just be UCB though. http://boinc-doc.net/boinc-wiki/index.php?title=Troubleshooting_Network_Problems Half way down is a script for the automated test for microsoft windows. Thanks |

Tony, I'm sending this reply in pieces to try and get it through. The server istiming out.... I downloaded DrTCP but didn't use it. DrTCP doesn't report the current IP settings and in WinXP those settings are difficult / impossible to find. I won't make changes to TCP settings unless I can put them back the way they were. And in this case I don't know what to put them back to. I sent a couple of emails to Ian, who you asked to look in on this thread. I'd be pleased to send the text of his reply to you if you're interested. My summary of what Ian said in the email is that the BOINC server complex has some problems which can't be diagnosed while the servers are in production. But these problems are what's probably causing my grief. His one suggestion, was for me to temporarily bypass my home hardware firewall and see what happens. I'll try tomorrow. But even if it works that situation can not be allowed to persist for more than a few hours (the firewall is also the switch/hub for my home network... when it's out I have no network). He also asked em to try and communicate with BOINC using a proxy. WHich I did with no success. Regards, Lenny Wintfeld |

Second piece So the bottom line is that I'm S.O.L for now. The news part of the seti site yields some hope though. They evidently have been overwhelmed with data conversion and traffic lately. Maybe the whole problem is servers that can't hack it (yet) and which won't degrade gracefully in the face of an overload. Pehaps plain patience will solve my problem. If not, it'll have to be so-long seti after 6 years and 4707 results. Thanks for all the work you did in trying to get me going. Sometimes you get the bear sometimes the bear gets you.... Regards, Lenny |

Hi Guys, Not too long ago I investigated this MTU problem and the results/solutions are posted in this thread. To find out if that is really your case, try the following: ping -f -l 1472 setiboinc.ssl.berkeley.edu If it fails, there is a strong possibility that the thread above will be able to help you. If it doesn't, well... we'll just have to keep looking :-) Cheers PS: Btw, for the record, the path to TCP/IP settings in WinXP registry is HKLM/System/CurrentControlSet/Services/Tcpip |

Hi Guys, Hi Thanks for the advice. I tried the "don't fragment" ping with 1472 bytes to seti and it succeeded. So I guess there is no black hole router in my route. The microsoft KB article was very interesting. I'm unfortunately still out of luck and stuck at 4707 work units for the forseeable future. Was definitely worth a try though... Tnx, Lenny |
