The last couple of WU's I recieved ended up finishing really early (early for my comoputer anyways) Is this normal and Will I get credit for all these? It seems to be the first 3 on the list that finished real quick. Any comments? The last couple of WU's I recieved ended up finishing really early (early for my comoputer anyways) looks like you got some "noisy" workunits...they just buzz right through like a skipping CD...you'll get credit...but it'll be less than one credit each...sooner or later everyone gets 'em. The last couple of WU's I recieved ended up finishing really early (early for my comoputer anyways) It seems there were a lot of them sent out over night. It says for the top 3 WU's that: the number of results detected exceeds the storage space allocated. What does that mean? It says that on the WU's for all the computers that analyzed the top 3 WU's. The last couple of WU's I recieved ended up finishing really early (early for my comoputer anyways) stderr out <core_client_version>5.2.13</core_client_version> <stderr_txt> (Maniacally optimized with Intel C++ compiler 9.0/IPP library 4.1 by Tetsuji Maverick Rai, rev.08.1, Wed Jun 15 17:51:14 2005) SETI@Home Informational message -9 result_overflow NOTE: The number of results detected exceeds the storage space allocated. </stderr_txt> The bold part means 'noisy work unit'. This is usually caused by Radio Frequency Interference (RFI) from something like an airplane or satalite passing over the dish. https://youtu.be/iY57ErBkFFE #Texit Don't blame me, I voted for Johnson(L) in 2016. Truth is dangerous... especially when it challenges those in power. |

It seems there were a lot of them sent out over night. It says for the top 3 WU's that: It means there was some sort of electromagnetic noise picked up, and the number of signals is so ridiculously high it's obviously a terrestrial artifact, so there's no point in further analysis. You'll get credit for the time you spent crunching on it, but it'll probably be a fraction of a cobblestone. Cheers, Brian If you think education is expensive, try ignorance. |

It seems there were a lot of them sent out over night. It says for the top 3 WU's that: Well thanks guys :) I was hoping it was not just me. I thought for a minute my computer was overheating. Maybe it was a UFO sending a signal to the dish?? The last couple of WU's I recieved ended up finishing really early (early for my comoputer anyways) |

LOL I wish it was a(n) UFO...but if it were, the signal would have been analyzed and not marked as noise ;-) Also a UFO would be withing viewing distance from earth. Radars and such would have detected it. "By faith we understand that the universe was formed at God's command, so that what is seen was not made out of what was visible". Hebrews 11.3 |

You'll get credit for the time you spent crunching on it, but it'll probably be a fraction of a cobblestone. I have noticed a lot of these also today. But most of them have not been finishing early and are taking the normal amount of time. In each case I looked at, all four have reported results with the overflow, but the validators are so far behind, they have not been validated yet. I saw one, where three took a normal amount of time and one ended early? So if it is noise, there is a lot of processing time being wasted on them. |

You'll get credit for the time you spent crunching on it, but it'll probably be a fraction of a cobblestone. Interesting observation. I am wondering the same myself. I wonder if there are a lot more bad WU's than previously thought? Or if they are bad at all? A lot of times when a noisy WU is noticed, there are several of them, because the noise is all grouped together on the tape. The tapes are split into very small segments, and many concurrent segments will probably have noise. My movie https://vimeo.com/manage/videos/502242 |

I'm seeing more than the usual number of noisy wu's that are taking anywhere from 30 seconds to 3 minutes to complete in the past few days, which is galling due to it being hard to pick up work consistently at the moment. Due to this I found my laptop without any work and eerily silent when I woke up this morning (it's not always connected to the net). Live long and crunch (if you can get 'em), Paul (S@H1 8888) And proud of it! |

Im starting to get a lot of "quick" WU's again. So far 2 today. Also some errors in the last 3 before the "noisy?" ones. Due to this I found my laptop without any work and eerily silent when I woke up this morning (it's not always connected to the net). maybe add another project with a small resource share? Rosetta has 28 day deadline; give it a 1% resource share and it will download a cacheful and hardly touch them. But if a run of short WU comes up again, your laptop will have something to do while waiting for the next attampt a getting work out of SETI. Just a thought - I notice from your stats you are no stranger to multi-projects, so forgive me if I'm teaching my grandma to suck eggs. R~~ |

Oh I am doing other projects :) I love the fact I can do other projects. I eventaually get WU's but it takes a few tries. I have a 2 day back up of WU's so no worries :) "By faith we understand that the universe was formed at God's command, so that what is seen was not made out of what was visible". Hebrews 11.3 |
