Message 222963 - Posted: 29 Dec 2005, 21:49:34 UTC

Does anyone on the US Navy team know how to get in touch with the founder of this team or at least some one who can get our web site working correctly again?
It has been months now and still no communication with members.

YANK

Yank,
Have you tried the contact link at the site: marco@blantonious(dot)com? That is supposedly the webmaster. Admin account is listed as being marco@valdez(dot)net. Tallman (founder) is listed as rtallmansu@hotmail(dot)com. I got these by looking at forum profiles; they may be too ancient to be any good. (Yes, the forum does still kind of work..)

It's sad that they didn't hand over the reins to someone who cares. And don't get me started on the Navy's CPDN team, founded by a ghost...

Sigh... I retire in April; may have to join a different team after that if things don't improve.

Sparky 66,

In April, when you retire, let me know what team you may consider joining if we don't have any contact with the Navy Team founder or WebMaster. We both have good stats in SETI, Climate Prediction, Enistein, and LHC@home that some other team would like to have(if the stats can be transfered).

Gentlemen the U.S.M.C is always looking for a few good men...even those of dubious maritime backgrounds. ;)

Hey guys,
If you're unable to contact your team, how would you like to crunch for a good, ol' red-blooded AMERICAN team? Team SETI.USA is always looking for good people--doesn't matter whether you have high stats or not.Our goal right now is to take the #1 spot in RAC away from Team Seti.Germany. We are working hard on it--we've moved up more than 90 spots in the last month!
Open invitation to come visit our MB and have a look around-just click the link below my sig.

You know, I always thought the USMC were a group of misfits with odd-shaped heads that were rejected by the Navy, though...? :)

The both of you are welcome to join the U.S. Air Force's team. Our two teams already rule the Gov teams category, combined we would be unstoppable. And just think about this...

You guys have nothing in common with the marines or army, but you have everything in common with the Air Force. Consider this:

You have grey ships, we have grey planes!
You shoot missiles from great distances, we shoot missiles from great distances!
You have SLBMs, we have ICBMs!
You have sonar, we have radar!

Between the two of our teams, we can see everything in the sea, on land and in space and control the US Nuclear weapons, and we obviously have the best technology of any of the branches.

So there you have it! Come over to the dark side with air conditioning and cable TV. Don't let the Marines confuse the issue!

Good lord that was a lame post. You might as well just tattoo "wus" on your forehead and be done with it.

No offense zoomie but the squids actually work for a living, the last thing they want to do is slum with the civil air patrol wannabees.

Seriously though if you are having that much trouble with the team you might want to just start contacting the people in the team and see about moving everyone over to a newly started Navy team.

Go Army, ;o)

I don't know many people in the Air Force that would join the CAP for anything other than pity -- but very good reference, CAP is a very obscure auxillary organization these days. Not many people know about its existance, and its budget is at a very low point. Were you a past member? Or perhaps know a few?

Well, technically it would be Civil Air Patrol as well, but people are running pretty low on real points when they resort to grammar attacks. Take this comment for example... there is no good reason for putting "Marine" in lower case, so instead I target your mistakes to change the issue entirely.

Go Army, ;o)

Nice to know the Army has a sense of humor as well, this post is an excellent work of propaganda. However! I know the Navy is smart enough to see through this smoke screen of facts and information and find the real truth.

All of these replies are pretty funny. Of course, if the choice were to join another armed forces team, it would have to be the Marines. A Chairborne Ranger wouldn't know, but the Marines ARE a branch of the Navy. I did most of my 12 years of sea time on amphibious ships, so have an affinity towards them too; even if 80% of them are grunts. ;) Those of us that sailed on small-boys have little to nothing in common with propeller heads.

Seriously though, the only thing wrong with our team is: team's website is in need of repair, and the team header on the SETI boards is over a year old. Trying to contact the webmaster & founder to rectify these has been a pain.

Contacting members to join a new team with a similar name would not work well, as we don't have good e-mail addresses for most people... most listed on the team's site are 3-5 yrs old so would likely bounce. Two groups would just cause confusion and divide the user-base, hurting team placement in standings.

Our problems will work themselves out eventually once contact is made with those in control. It's just frustrating in the meantime. Hard to recruit new peeps when there is no sense of community in the group.

1. The Air Force actually knows everything, we just play along sometimes.

2. You are listening to facts again, you need to stop that. The simple truth of the matter is that all the facts and compelling arguments in the world can't possibly compare to my excessive wordiness.

Our problems will work themselves out eventually once contact is made with those in control.

You should stop thinking so positive and instead, surrender your credits to the Air Force. ;-)

What do you say? I know you want to...

One small POI (point of interest):

Credit earned in boinc is kept different from classic. Team Shopping is dead. Credit earned by an individual is always kept by that individual. However, a team only gets credits equal to the amount you earn while a member of the team. If you leave a team, the team doesn't loose those credits, and when you join, it doesn't get your older credits.
