It's my humble meaning that everyone who is in anyway upset over Misfits "tips and tricks" post is really in need of reading it again. The rest of us salute Misfit for helping out the newbies.

.... As others have wisely pointed out, Mods are here for the purpose of maintaining a decent board, and so to them we should entrust their appointed roles.

....

The "mods" here have more important things to do then sit in front of their monitors reading these fora and "policing" them. They happen to be the project and BOINC developers. They need to be contacted, via e-mail, to get their attention when it is needed.... (-:<

Human Psychology & Behaviour...

WHY oh why does it seem all too easy for some to take things a bit too serious, and turn it into something it isn't?

Misfit's "tips & tricks" are useful to those new to the fora.
Just because Misfit posted it doesn't mean he's trying to claim for himself any position of authority. Seems to me he's just offering his own version of advice he's probably learned from others along the way.

Generally, I daresay most of us have the general intentions of peace here on the fora, so I'm somewhat shocked that some (remaining nameless) would even bother to take it upon themselves and (IMHO) "waste" any time at all pointing fingers at potential (but not proven) "trolls".

Might I humbly suggest this:
If you, as a frequenter of the fora, find a post / a person somewhat "troll-like", perhaps the best thing to do is say nothing, and just hit the [-] button and encourage friends / fellow posters to do the same (email them or something), rather than call undue attention to it by an outright post before having any significant proof of one's supposedly illicit behaviour..?
.. and/or report such troll-like message to the Mods with a request to have it blocked / removed..?

I so very much dislike disagreement and disruption within such a generally cohesive and supportive group...

Thanks to Dogbytes, too, for the Peace posting in Pax Domin.. er.. -ae? -us? I forgot the Latin. *sigh* Sorry.

Along those lines, then, shall we not try simply to continue peacefully, and not militarise the fora with unnecessary acts of "policing"? As others have wisely pointed out, Mods are here for the purpose of maintaining a decent board, and so to them we should entrust their appointed roles.

Okay.. I'd better get off the soap box.

Light 'n' Love, folks.

Peace.

Might I mention, that a moderator thought this thread was needed in this forum, and stickied it for a reason. Your making yourselves look more like Trolls all the time...I'm almost embarrassed for you.

Just a friendly reminder.

<SNIP>

So again, I'm so sorry Misfit.

Thats a hell of a gear change from a few months ago.

Misfit's no doubt going to make a new thread yet again since we so-called "attention whores" have decimated this one, so this discussion is probably a waste of time.

Misfit's hijacked plenty of threads in his time so I'm sure he doesn't really care that much if it happens to him. It's only a thread after all, and threads get posted in. Calling him King Kong is plainly ridiculous and hardly the insult of the century. :-)
Sometimes I think people around here take things far too seriously.
Chill out everyone. Let the thread get messed up, people are messy, all you have to do is repost the rules or restart the thread. It's not the end of the world.

Misfit. I just want to say how sorry I am for the King Kong comment. I don't know what came over me. It was totally inappropriate of me to make jokes in a thread as serious and important as this one. I've let everyone down. I've let myself down and my team. I've let Dogbytes down. Sorry Dogbytes. I'm thoroughly ashamed of myself and I can only prostrate myself before you all and beg for forgiveness.

At Chris, knowing how deeply your feelings for Misfit go, I can't apologise enough to you as well. Please find it in your heart to forgive me.

At everyone else, especially those who are new to the forum, I need to make it clear that Misfit is not a giant gorilla. Apart from anything else, where would he get a keyboard big enough? He has, as far as I'm aware, never climbed up the outside of any tall buildings holding a beautiful screaming woman in his giant hairy hands. Not that he has giant hairy hands (as far as I know).
I hope this has set the record straight.

So again, I'm so sorry Misfit.

On the SETI classic boards there arose, from time to time, someone who took it upon him(her)self to act as if he(she) had been appointed monitor. I do hope that Misfit is not carrying on this dubious activity. I think that most participants in the project can be counted upon to possess sufficient intelligence to know where to post what kind of message. If a few choose to ignore the obvious, well no doubt they will be quickly corrected.

In short, Misfit, don't give yourself airs.
