But, pretty soon there will be plenty of tapes when we encounter units about six times as long. I still do wonder when that seven-element receiver will be mounted at Arecibo. Also I wonder when the data we collect will be eight-bit instead of just two-bit. That means phase angles accurate to +-0.7 degree instead of the present +-45 degrees. Looking at each spot in the sky for 107 seconds just one to four times total is just barely scratching the surface. The aliens may have their apparatus off most of the time, and, it's only one chance in 5,000,000 that they would have it pointed at us during the time it were on, assuming a beamwidth of 1/10 degree.

there are enough splitters. Work distribution is gonig slow becausse the less traffic trying to get work or return work the less time it will take for the Database merge to finish. More traffic = more time it takes for transition to be complete. Once SETI Classic is fully transferred, then the splitters will be at full strength.

from what I can see, 7 splitters can build up a reserve of work,
6 can barely stay ahead of the demand,
5 or less play a losing game....
