Not to complain, but I have (5) out-going works and (1)in-coming work that are-not doing nothing but standing there. Anyone out there have the solution to this problem?

Mine is doing the same thing. I thought the server might be down.

I closed out my computer and now it is processing again, but won't upload. So yes I am having a similar problem too. At least it keeps downloading and working. I am sure it is a server problem since 3 of us our having the same problem.

Switched to "SETI@Home-BOINC" on 2nd Dec. 2005 from "SETI@Home Classic".
Everything AOK, all systems go; except last couple of days.

Message output:
6/12/2005 4:58:56 PM|SETI@home|Temporarily failed upload of 13au01aa.6597.20754.729828.181_3_0: error 500

Been happening a lot, with only very occassional (1 in 40) upload succeeding.
To a lesser extent with downloads as well, but managing to download new work before run out (of work).

I know the "error 500" relates to an internal Server Error (at SETI@Home-BOINC), but surely after two days of problems, Server fault can be fixed.
Jim Dalton

Addendum: Read http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/tech_news.php and I know they are having problems keeping/catching up with work uploads/downloads.
(Might see if I can disable uploads for couple of days, and just download work as needed).

Don't rant and rave; the Techie's are doing their best I'm sure.

I'm sitting at 15 data sets to upload although it seems to be getting enough to keep itself feed. (barely) I have the preferences set to have .5 days of work downloaded which is 5 or so samples but I'm down to 3 ready and 1 running at this rate I'll catch up after a couple more days. Meanwhile I have a lot of results waiting to be reported. I just hope I can report them before the final report deadline for them passes and my results are voided.

Guess we are all in the same boat...I have four units waiting for upload and one I've been tryingg to download....guess it will clear up in a few days, they weren't planning on this much participation, eh????

Hi. As someone posted below, read the front page and the tech news as this will normally tell you what's going on with the project. Since it's a major issue, they will usually address the situation with either a blurb on the homepage or a longer post in the forums and the Tech News Page. The server's being hit by many downloads and the up/download servers are being strained with their recent problems. Top it off with the merger of the master science database for Classic and bingo, you got issues.

Also, some people will point out that this deserves to go to the Number Crunching Forum as this forum is meant for Science discussion.(Just FYI) Plus, the Number Crunching has several threads addressing this issue. Finally, despite the problems so far, welcome aboard!

SETI@Home obviously needs more client/work servers out there; and preferably not too close to each other. The project has grown out of current technical limits. Bottlenecks should be foreseen and precautions should be taken in advance.

Maybe some trusted clients can also be used as servers to ease down the traffic on the main servers. Kind of like a P2P network. Boinc can be easily re-coded to support that.

I had the same problem, I finally deleted all by resetting, this is a terrible situation, the "brains" of this operation didn't think ahead evidently. They complain about the old seti being behind, old and archaic, but didnt they see this comming - got caught with thier pants down again. I really dont think the old seti was broken, but others wanted their work to be done by the public too, so lets see if we can make a program where everyone can join in. Hmmmm, a heafty grant, then I can make some money off this thing. Thats what I think happened, screw the old seti users over by turning off the original, and make them join this new screw up!

One of the major tenents of this entire SETI project is patience. Simply because work units are not being up/downloaded at the normal rate we are used to does not mean everything is screwed up. I for one, have faith; faith that these errors will be corrected, the system will improve, that signals will be found.
