Does anyone know if the "Powers In Charge" plan to transfer the last Seti Classic credits to the Bonic side of the house? I've processed over 5K more classic units since the March credit transfer. I got cut off the classic side December 1st. They wouldn't transfer more classic units and let me process the last unit over and over, sending me a message telling me that that unit has already been received and that no credit will be issued. Still don't like this new system.

Once Classic has closed down, there will be a last update. Currently your account page shows "completed X Seti Classic work units as of March 15 2005." That'll be updated to something like "completed Y Seti Classic work units as of December 15 2005."

Since Seti/BOINC calculates credit differently than Classic did, there's no direct workunit-to-credits conversion, but your work units for Classic will be recorded.

Cut and pasted from the BOINC wiki:

What about my credit from the original SETI@Home program?

You will still have it.

However, the old Credit will not be translated into Cobblestones.

On the "Your Account" Page of the SETI@Home site you should see your SETI@Home Classic credit score as of March 2005. This number is not updated as you do more SETI@Home Classic work.

However, once the SETI@Home Classic project is ended these numbers will be updated to the final values for all that were a Participant in the SETI@Home Classic project.

Also note that the number will only be in your account data if you open your SETI@Home (Powered by BOINC) account using the same e-Mail address of your original SETI@Home Classic Account.

Cobblestones are the "credits" you get for returning a work unit. In a nutshell, you won't see Classic wu's suddenly show up as credits under BOINC, but you can still see them if you look them up. Also, many?, some? of the sig generators show Classic scores. I've seen it but haven't looked into creating one of my own yet. Someone else will surely be willing to post a solution for you.

Onward for science!!!!

Yes, Jim, my up to date Classic stats can be viewed on the bottom line of my signature.

boincsynergy is the team I'm on and Zain makes them for you. You can get sigs from other places as well. www.mundayweb.com, www.boincstats.com and many others, just look around, if you see one you like then there you go.

I think there will be only "SETI@home classic workunits X" because there will not be any future update :P

True, but you can do an approximate calculation to know how may credits would be the classic workunit, using the assigned medium value for every wu on BOINC (24 - 26).

Unfortunately, this is not true. Different versions of classic did different amounts of science. The science application used for each result was apparently not recorded for each result returned by each person. It is also impossible to use the dates of crunching because there was no way to enforce an upgrade to the science application.

Then there is the problem with granting BOINC credits to Classic cheaters and severe overclockers. BOINC S@H grants credit for valid work completed. Classic granted credit for any work completed whether it was an outright fraud, cherry picked noisy results, or a from a client so severly overclocked that it was always producing junk results. Some of this was unintentional, and some was otherwise, but granting credits in a newer cheat resistant version is a bit problematic.

One of the reasons why I love BOINC. I worked hard for all of my credits and was angry and surprised when I first heard about cheaters. Naive sounding to be surprised, I know, but frankly it never occurred to me to cheat. Anyway, up BOINC, down cheating losers.
