Message 206683 - Posted: 8 Dec 2005, 13:37:18 UTC - in response to Message 206656.

I'm sure it's not news, but I haven't seen anyone explicitly say that when their uploads can start at all, they all stall at the same point, e.g. 0.28/11.28 KB or 0.28/13.65 KB, then time out in about 5 minutes.
[.....]
Hope some of that information helps.

Good, but it was explitly told.
But, I agree, it's better to repeat it.

What I can see, about the few result positively uploaded, is:

08.12.2005 14:14:20|SETI@home|Started upload of 20mr05aa.6043.24434.479830.171_3_0
08.12.2005 14:15:35|SETI@home|Finished upload of 20mr05aa.6043.24434.479830.171_3_0
08.12.2005 14:15:35|SETI@home|Throughput 241 bytes/sec

so: 1 minute and 15 second at 241 bytes/sec (and I have a 1200 ADSL)

Bye,
Francesco

THe number at the front 0.28 is dependent upon connection speed. It changes especially for dial up. It's what most all are seeing.

thanks

why is that???

Because despite the amount of posts asking you, pleading you, telling you and shouting at you, you still refuse to follow some basic instinct and read the front page news.

Do you start at the forums on CNN.com or do you read the news first?

Please always read the front page news first:

Is anyone at Berkley noticing that they are at 50% of what is uploading and downloading from them. They reply that the server status is working. But it is not. Half of us are not holding on. We are being dropped off at 2% of upload or download.

Other Bionic programs are working fine.

But, for Seti Bionic.

I cannot upload or down load any work at this time.

Yes, The server times me out in 5 minutes with about 2% of the upload and download.

Yes, I get the 500 errors. But it not because of my end its because the servers cannot handle the load.

Yes, I have finished work that has pilled up and ready for upload.

Yes, I have run out of Seti Bionic Work.

I hope They realize at Berkley not all is OK!!!!!!!!!!!!

Message 206872 - Posted: 8 Dec 2005, 17:02:29 UTC - in response to Message 203065.

A few of us are trying to track the cause of 500 errors.
It appears that it may have something to do with MTU sizes.

To get to the source of this I have several questions.

1. What type of connection do you have to your ISP?
(dial-up, DSL, Cable, Other [specify other]
Office Network T-1 or better

2. What equipment are you using to access your ISP?
(cable modem [manufacturer, mode], DSL Modem, Other)
LAN

3. Are you running other applications that could consume bandwidth? (bit torrent, win mx, napster, etc)
No other bandwidth consuming aplications

4. Are you connected directly to your cable/dsl modem or is there a router or switch in line?
Direct connection to network

5. Are you willing to share a network trace with one of us?
Yes. Do you want an ethereal capture as well?

Thanks, Ageless, for the links. I had the front page, of course, but didn't think to look there. If I had seen the Technical News or Server Status links, I had not noticed them. They were very helpful and informative. I have now bookmarked them for future reference

I have a simple question about the logs some of you display:
Not that I want to post them, because not only are we all already aware of the problem, but the list is too long... however, how do you go about retrieving the list? That is, if I *did* want to post it?
BTW, I did a tracert and all but two of the hops are timing out. This makes me think there's something wrong on *my* end. Could there be something I'm doing very wrong?
Thanks,
Justin

ONLY two hops?

Like:

192.168.2.1
192.168.254.254
then nothing?

Point your cursor far to the right of the line/s you want to copy, depress and hold the left mouse button, then drab over the lines you want to copy, then release left mouse button, then select "copy selected text". Then point at the reply box, right click and select Paste

I can add this detail.

Looking at "Tranfer" tab in Boinc manager, I can see the result starting with 0.00% in the "progress" column, than 2-3% for some seconds and finally it stops with 100% with a new retry scheduled. In theese cases I get the 500 error.
If Progress is always blocked on 0.00%, I get I/O error.
Bye

Good catch. That is a big help.

Mine does the same thing.

Windows XP SP2
BOINC Manager 5.2.13 with enhanced version installed.
Seti, Rosetta, Predictor
Ran fine with the new client / enhanced version for about a day

traceroute works with ICMP or ECHO packets. If the various hops along way have response packets filtered or they do not respond in a given time you will get that *. If any of the hops along the way have the ECHO or ICMP blocked then your traceroute will timeout for a total of 30 tries.

For anyone one who has an actual connection with the folks at Berkeley. The current Technical News article states that downloads are working fine, only uploads are broken.

I have 2 servers that prove this to be false.

I am quite willing to let this go on as long as it takes the Seti folks to get the problems ironed out, BUT, this Technical News article shows me that they are not aware of the entire scope of the problem.

I would be happy to send logs to anyone who can actually help the situation.
