BOINC 5.2.13 Not obeying prefs

jimnil Volunteer tester Send message Joined: 31 May 03 Posts: 2 Credit: 458,610 RAC: 0	Message 218273 - Posted: 19 Dec 2005, 21:17:13 UTC I think i found the reason for this, if you look in a file named global_prefs.xml you can see a tag that say <run_if_user_active/> if you change it to <run_if_user_active>0</run_if_user_active> and save the file again it's start to do what it's realy should do, nothing when your computer is active. As far as I can see Seti is obeying your preferences. It isnt doing work while you are using the computer. If you just want the screensaver to come up after 3 minutes, check that BOINC is set as your Windows screensaver (Start Menu - Settings - Control Panel - Display - ScreenSaver) and remember that any mouse or keyboard input stops the screensaver. Sorry, no, this is not the case. The screensaver starts and states that "BOINC is currently suspended." so if the screensaver is running, is the PC doing any work (according to BOINC}? ID: 203566 ·

Simmo Send message Joined: 9 Jun 99 Posts: 3 Credit: 1,455,110 RAC: 0	Message 202285 - Posted: 3 Dec 2005, 21:13:43 UTC I've installed BOINC 5.2.13 on 3 PCs (all running WinXP Pro SP2) but can't get ANY of them to run on prefs. Under the BOINC Commands drop down, I've set it to Run based upon preferences. Under gereral preferences I've set "Do work while computer is in use?" to "no" and "Do work only after computer is idle for" to 3 minutes. I've run the update under BOINC manager but can ONLY get BOINC to run if it is set to "Run always". Am I missing something or is this a bug? ID: 202285 ·
