The folks in Number Crunching or the BOINC Message Boards could answer these questions better.

But I do know that the CPDN science app is mostly written in FORTRAN (adapted from the UK Met. Office Unified Model). So presumably just about any programming language can be used to write a science app.

What does the boinc client code build? does it build the SetiathomeXXXX.exe program or something like boinc manager? If a Java api were developed could a java client with workload be created? Or could it only request a workunit and run it?
