And of course make sure your firewall (like XP service pack 2's built in one) is set to let both boincmgr.exe and boinc.exe use the internet.

If you still have the problem with proxy-settings, try to restart your computer. That helped me when I had the same problem on two of my computers.

All you folks - if you are just trying to setup seti for the first time, there is a weekly outage for system backup, mid-day every wednesday. The server disappears for about 3 or 4 hours, and then is very busy for several more hours after.

Please be patient, and try again, a few hours from now.

Don

Is it still doing it? The wizard dumps you on the project page when it can't contact the project URL that you put in. I think this should be explained on the proxy screen instead of just asking for proxy info. Every Wednesday the project goes down for weekly maintenance tasks so you were likely unable to contact the project because of that. If it is still doing it then there is another problem somewhere.

I tried to get seti work on my home computer (i already have it running on my school computer)

however, when i try to add a project, after asking the url, it asks me for proxy settings. i'm not running any proxies...that i know of. it's just a home computer with a dsl modem.

any help?
