I got the email yesterday telling me to migrate from seti@home classic to BOINC. So (despite trying this earlier this year without success) I got myself a new account key, downloaded and installed BOINC version 5.2.8. However, when trying to attach my seti@home project, it asks for a URL (fine) but then asks for proxy server information. I don't use a proxy server! However, when I do type in the details of a valid proxy server and port, it comes back to the same screen - I can't get any further! Following a recommendation in another post, I've tried rebooting, uninstalling, reinstalling, rebooting again - nothing makes any difference, I just can't get past the proxy server screen. Please help - I've been running seti since 1999, don't want to get kicked off in a few weeks just because I can't get BOINC to work! |

From the number of times that this question is being asked, I am going to assume that the servers are a bit overloaded at the moment. The dialog popup is caused if the delay in contacting the server exceeds some threshold. BOINC WIKI |

On two separate Windows PCs, I have found that this seems to relate to some strange registry error. See my discussion on my problems and the solution I found that worked on two PCs at http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/forum_thread.php?id=22565 |
