I see you are running XP, so I would advise installing as a service. This way the client will be running all the time even if nobody is logged on. You can run the manager as needed to check things. Thanks for your response. Now, what do you mean by "installing as a service"? :) The client should be running all the time anyway, I thought? I am the only user of this computer and it is on almost all the time, except when it needs to be restarted after installations, updates, etc. Edited to add: Okay, I've looked at the Wiki and checked services.msc--it's not installed as a service. So should I uninstall BOINC completely and reinstall it that way? I'm assuming I'll have some kind of choice to install as a service in a dialogue box? Thanks, Sherry |

Can anyone suggest why, probably 2 out of every 3 times my computer is restarted, BOINC fails to connect? Could it be interference from other programs that startup at the same time? Once it happens, simply shutting BOINC down and starting it again doesn't help; I have to keep restarting the computer until the connection takes. I would really have no problem with this new(ish) system if the darn thing would just work without problems. This is only one of several, but it's the most frustrating and time-consuming. Thanks for any help. |
