Your classic credits aren't updated to the Boinc site continuously, they have to do a complete read of the DB and bring them over. The credits you see are up to a certain date. They will be updated after Classic closes for good

No definitive news. "Soon", is all I've heard.

end of Year would be my guess, but then I really thought it'd have been closed in Jun 2005, so my guessing is as good as yours. The only thing I can think of is that they were waiting for V5 to settle in and be solid enough, AND maybe even bring the Beta Application over into Seti/Boinc before throwing the switch. Once you see the Beta app become the Seti Application, then I'd start getting prepared for it.

December 15th is the current target date. Have a big outage soon for a big step in the master migration database, and then when we're back up start sending out the mass e-mail saying it's time to start moving over.

Is it about time for the email notification to all active S@H classic crunchers?

Message 186583 - Posted: 7 Nov 2005, 6:35:43 UTC - in response to Message 186539.

I had been running Seti Classic for about 2 years, and I only found about the new BOINC version by accident last week. I had to reinstall Windows on one of my PC's, and when I went to the Seti Site to download the software, I found out about BOINC. My new BOINC account only shows half of my credits from the old SETI classic. I am disabled and living on a fixed income and only have 3 very old slow PC's, but I have still been able to get into the top 10% of Seti-Classic users by number of work units, because I keep my PCs running Seti 24*7. I had not heard of the new BOINC, because once I got my PC's running Seti@Home, along with Seti-Monitor and Seti-Spy, I monitored everything through those and never really went to the Seti Web Page.

There are probably lots of other users that have not heard about the new version either.

I was disappointed that CNN's Miles O'Brien did an hour long show on Seti a few months ago, and no mention was even made of Seti@Home. There must be lots of people that would help, but have never heard of the project. Once the change-over is completed, there should be more of an effort made to inform the public about the application. I filed an amended income tax return for 2003 and expect a refund that I hope to hide from my wife long enough to buy a new PC. A new PC will hopefully increase my work-unit rate. Since my 3 old PC's can only run a total of 500 Whetstones combined, even the slowest new PC should be able to run circles about my 3 dinosaurs.

Seti classic is still running at http://seticlassic.ssl.berkeley.edu and your credits are safe and sound. Once classic shuts down your BOINC account will be updated with your final work unit count. Also, as Matt mentioned, there will be a mass email sent out to all classic users within the next few weeks so that should get some attention :)

The pop-up will only work for people using the Seti screen saver.
