It's got a 6 instead of a 5 as the last number, so that's the new feature. That's all that UCB will tell the "unclean masses".

My bozo bin just got a new entry. So there has at least been _some_ kind of improvement :o)

You attach to projects using your own email address and password. Long, random 'account keys' are no longer used.

Is that supposed to be an advantage? I have enough headache remembering passwords for the sites I need to keep personal and using bugmenot.com (thanks you, bugmenot) for the sites which ask me for passwords just because they feel like it. An account key works for me. I actually don't it, I simply keep a copy of account_setiweb.ssl.berkeley.edu.xml handy in my online briefcase.

Hmmm... new question, if you use the new "improved" method, does it set the same password for all projects? Will it require that I use the same password on all Projects?

I have to admit, I don't see that there is much advantage to the new system either ... but, it is not like anyone listens to me ...

This release is just localization updates, and one change for *nix style systems using /dev/random for the random number generator.

It was required for a project launch tomorrow.

I don't see a advantage, now two line to enter instead of one.
Now I would have to copy and paste both my email address and my password.
Why the change?
Also I don't like so call wizzard, just put all the information that is need on one window, so I can enter all the infor without answering one question after another.
My 2 cents plus change

The previous system was problematic because it didn't draw from the collective knowledge of working with other computer systems. People would post their account keys in forums and the like.

The web is littered with web sites that require a username and password to track what a user wants to do. Most people would recognize that they should not post their passwords in a forum.

Another huge problem was people didn't know about proxy servers between them and the Internet. The wizard is smart enough to be able to detect that condition now and prompt for that information. In a future release a button will be added to that screen to automatically detect the right settings on a Windows system.

There is still a lot of usability work to do, but most of it has to be incremental. It took a few weeks to get a lot of the projects to upgrade their backend systems. A few of them are still working on it.

Ok, this is mean ...

A new project? Just an Alpha/Beta test still, or production?

They didn't know then and they don't know better now!
ATM we have lots of questions in "Q&A" of people who are stuck at this damned prompt for a proxy. But they don't even know about the existence of a proxy!

And we can't help them...

Rom, it would be very appreciated if one of you could give some help on this matter.

I installed the 5.2.6 on both laptops and they seem to be humming along!

I've created a wiki page describing what BOINC is supposed to do to detect the need for proxy information.

Afer it gets a thumbs up from Paul we can use it to help those who are having proxy issues.

Then again, I always think that ...

Ingleside, Tigher (is Tigher sitll alive? I have not seen him for awhile...) can you also take a look and see if you can add anything.

==== Edit

The page is BOINC FAQ: Running BOINC behind a proxy server
