If this won't avail, search for files named BOINC.MSI in your windows directory and remove them. There may be several of them (one for each version you installed). In those MSIs are informations about the installed programs, and if windows doesn't find the respective data any more, it produces error 1714. I wouldn't delete them, though (you never know!), but rename or move to another place. Then try to install from scratch. If it works, then of course you can go and delete the renamed files. :-)= Greybeard All about BOINC: BOINC-Wiki (by Paul D. Buck) |

To upgrade from 4.19 to 4.45 you need to run the Windows uninstaller, then install without deleting the directories. Then install 5.2.5 over that.

A bit of a shot in the dark, but worth a try. Thanks Brian, but I thoroughly cleaned all Boinc entries from the registry, all Boinc files, etc. Still no joy. I have managed to download 4.19 and I tried to replace it with 4.45. I got the same corrupt config. data error message. I then uninstalled 4.19 and tried again...still no luck. Frankly I'm stumped. I hope someone from Berkeley reads this and has some suggestions. It appears that some piece of 4.45, invisible to me, is still in my computer. What it can be I've no idea. A bit of a shot in the dark, but worth a try. First, I don't think you should have uninstalled 4.45 first. The installer for 5.2.5 would have deleted what was necessary itself. (Well that usually works although I did have a problem on one PC - see another thread.) Your problem could be that it can still see something 4.45-related in the registry, but can't see 4.45 "on the ground". Perhaps you didn't actually remove everything relevant in the registry. Try using regedit again and delete all keys/values you find which are related to BOINC (after first making a backup of the registry of course). Maybe if the installer can't find any reference to the earlier version, it will then install the new one successfully. Good luck! Brian |

Have you tried rebooting after uninstalling the old version and before installing the new one? |

I have attempted to install 5.25 with no success. I uninstalled all of 4.45 and got rid of everything related to Boinc in the registry. Now, when attempting to download either version I get (for 4.45) The configuration data for this product is corrupt; for 5.25 : 1714 Older version can't be removed. I am unable, therefore, to do any crunching. I need some serious tech help on this if anyone has any answers. Short of reformatting (a fate slightly worse than death) I have no Idea how to proceed.
