If you can get there through a proxy, then Berkeley isn't blocking his IP address. In order to help you, we need more data. You mention that you can't ping, have you tried a tracert to see where you fail? As others have mentioned, search the message boards for the proxy threads and/or search the WIKI for steps to isolate your problems.

Before the ip blocking of setiatwork ALL go well! After no! Using a proxy is not the same thant go without. I can write to my friend to do a tracert and post here.

But can we say if that ip is in the blocked list? We are not asking the moon....:|

Why don't you start a new thread using Matt Lebofsky in all caps in the title, explain what you think may have happened, refer/link him to this thread, and pray for the best. I wouldn't think Matt reads every post, but if one catches his eye, he's more likely to read it. He probably thinks he's already taken care of this thread.

We want to know if his IP it's in the list of blocked IP (and than unblock it), if not we will investigate elsewhere.

Please Matt...give us some information!

Bye,
GHz

I'm betting that the list of blocked IP addresses is extremely short -- you're going to have to cause major grief before they start blocking your address.

So, I think I'd start with the assumption that it isn't blocked, and there is some other cause.

... and I know you don't think it's asking much, but imagine if everyone starts by asking Matt if they're on some blocked IP's list -- little by little, it would simply consume all of his time.

Even if it turns out to be at or near Berkeley, it is more likely a routing error than an intentional block, and traceroutes will certainly help with that.

Cogent did have a couple of cut cables, and this may be causing the problem.

That is not true! When you connect to a server using a proxy, the server see the IP of the proxy, not your IP!

Yep, that's the one. That IP address alone was causing our load to jump from 3 to about 25. Nobody could get through, packets were getting dropped, etc.

I'll unblock you now, but can you please start parsing the XML stats I mentioned instead?

- Matt

Thank you Matt. I am the owner of SETIatWork.com and I am truely sorry my site has caused such heavy traffic load to S@H webserver. My server had a hardware failure earlier causing the hourly update processes to piled up. After the server was put back online, all the accumulated the processes immediately rushed to retrieve the pages thus causing such heavy traffic to S@H webserver. Again, I apologize for such oversight and mischap.

To prevent this from happening again, I will start using the XML stats.

Thanks to the help of everyone in this thread!!! I really didn't expect my problem to be resolved so quickly. I will start working on the script to use the XML data.
