Yet another "classic" cruncher unwilling to embrace change.

KILOwatt hours?? Good lord I work for a CLEC and we don't use KILOwatt hours with our normal computer needs.

You have the unalienable right to NOT crunch SETI with BOINC and to voice your opinion, but I sure wish you would get your facts straight before launching into yet another triade on the virtures of Classic vs. BOINC.

You have a nice life now ya hear!!!

PS You have upset poor Greybeard Shame on you!!!

Either I write half a novel now, or I just state in one sentence:

K&L, I simply cannot understand you.

What is so obscure and unpredictable about the credit system? each host that crunches a unit correctly i.e. is validated, gets the same as the other hosts that crunch that unit, on average they get 20ish credits. Should you get the same credits for a noisy unit, less than 300 sec crunch time as one taking hour(s).

The popularity of Classic was possibly because it was so easy to cheat where BOINC usually stops it, or it is spotable.

Kilowatt hours, how many did you waste on crunching a unit that was crunched by 50+ other hosts, because that was the only way Berkeley could keep up with demand. With BOINC the units are validated during the process not stuck on a server waitng for someone to check that the science is good, there are 5 million plus still waiting for validation over at Classic.

The support software you liked so much is built in, or is it you cannot cannot cache as much as you like and you don't like the enforced time limit.

If you wanted to crunch other scientfic projects at the same time as Classic, then you had to manage the projects manually, with BOINC you do it all under one roof, and automatically set the share.

And yes I did crunch Classic, lost password -enforced change of ISP when I moved, since 18 May 1999. I also enjoyed it, but this is better, but I still don't understand BOINC and all its quirks after 6 months plus.

Sorry to see you leave, Have fun with whatever you do next.

Although I did enjoy Seti Classic and it's simplistic nature to run, I must say since I've learned the In's & outs of BOINC & as they have added more & more Projects I'll take BOINC any day over Seti Classic ... Thats just my Opinion & in no way intended to demean your Opinion ... :)

For a variety of reasons, not the least of which is the obscure and unpredictable "credit" system, this new BOINC based S@H will never enjoy the popular support that Classic did. Personally, I have decided its not worth paying for all the killowatt hours to run the computers to do the work. After all these years of cruchning, all the energy and CPU cycles expended, it would be a stretch to say that ANY worthwhile results have been obtained from the project. I am discouraged and disappointed on both these fronts. I did enjoy running classic for about 4.5 years, and had as many as 25 computers crunching. I liked the 3rd party software support, I used Seti Driver and SetiQueue. I enjoyed pushing the computers, trying to maximize my results and stats. This new system is just too fussy and obscure. Flame out.
