As for the problem with Cogent. It appears that Level III is trying to pull some crap.. There is more then one ILEC, CLEC and Major ISP that is having an issue with Level III. As I work for a CLEC I can tell you peering is always a fragile existence. Level III seems to be making it worse. The issue is how they get paid for VoIP services. The upstreams see it as data termination and the downstream providers see it as call termination. Each is billed in a much different manner. While VoIP is saving the consumer a ton of cash, it's costing the the ILECs and CLECs even more. Worse part is some companies like Level III are both the call orginator and the call terminator.. I'd rather speak my mind because it hurts too much to bite my tongue. American Spirit BBQ Proudly Serving those that courageously defend freedom. |

On level3 I have to say this is the third dispute Cogent have found themsleves in this last 6 months with other providers over peering. Smoke and fire go together! |

RoadRunner is a sleazy outfit as far as I'm concerned. They sent me an E-mail the other day under the Guise of being from Comcast (Which I have an Account with) and like an Idiot I opened the mail. Poorboy you got Spoofed and if I was you I'd shut that PC off from the world and clean it up. Because of the Nature of Cable and how it is laid out in a municipality anything one cable company may or may not have loaded on a system would not work in another cable companies area. Cable companies unlike Telco's do not have direct competition from another Cable company. If you are a Comcast Customer Time-Warner can not hijack you.. As geek has said NONE of the cable companies actually require you load up softare to get it to work. They may ask you to load it, but you don't have too. Here in California I have Comcast. My office in NC is Time-Warner(Road Runner) and my home in NC is DirecTV. None of them have "Special" software that is REQUIRED. As for the problem with Cogent. I love my RoadRunner for two reasons. 1 - It's fast! 2 - It does NOT require any specific software to work. Install Windows and it works! No drivers, ok...NIC drivers but nothing specific to RoadRunner. [edit] By the way....I have been unable to find out why only RoadRunner is allowed back onto Cogent. Has anyone been able to fine out what kind of deal was made between Cogent and RoadRunner? [/edit] Boinc....Boinc....Boinc....Boinc.... |

How do you know it was actually from RoadRunner? Which only proves that the person who wrote the Trojan knew the phone number for RoadRunner. The vast majority of "viruses" out there are Trojans. As in "trojan horse"... As in "not what it appears." It's like the dozen PayPal or eBay notices that I get every day that says "your account is restricted" -- they look genuine right down to the copyright notice. ... but they didn't come from PayPal. |

How do you know it was actually from RoadRunner? ========== 1. Because there was a Phone # in the E-Mail to call if I had any Questions and somebody from RoadRunner answered the Phone when I called the # later on ... 2. There was a RoadRunner Folder with files in it in my Program Files also ... |

Road Runner is owned by Time Warner. This makes since, because the Road Runner cartoons are produced by Warner Brothers. |

That is not nice!. Tell Congress: in the UK now our Parliament has made that unlawful. A company can not send you an email without you agreeing in advance to it. This means effectively that you have to have bought something and AGREED to receive further communictaions from them. Apart from crap from foreign spammers it works remarkably well. Who owns road runner...is it Cox now owns them or TW? |

As soon as I opened it a bunch of RoadRunner crap was installed on my Computer and I had to spend the next few hours getting rid of it. I'm not sure I even got rid of it all because the Computer has been acting a little weird every now and then ever since ... Not nice at all of RoadRunner to pull that sort of Crap ... :/ |

I'll have to go find that thread with the posted tracert out of houston on TW as his route was the same as mine out of Austin once we got past the first 4 or 5 jumps... and compare that to what I have now.... now where did that thread go? Yup, Sure is. Ya coulda won some money as was sure it was different... oh well, I'm old. |

RoadRunner advised me that the Cogent problem had been resolved. My ping and tracert now work. My Roadrunner account is now working, units are updating fairly fast. <img src="http://boinc.mundayweb.com/seti2/stats.php?userID=1899" border="0"> <img src="http://seti.mundayweb.com/stats.php?userID=567" border="0"> <img src="http://sero.cwsurf.de/dc.php/user/chrissard/project/ud.png"> |

Very sorry to hear that the fix is not in for everyone. I guess the suits are not finished talking. It's likely not a 'suit' issue. The initial 'shutoff' was, but now we're likely looking at a propagation issue that will resolve itself over a period of time... Stewie: So, is there any tread left on the tires? Looks like roadrunner solved the problem, at least temporarily, but other providers have not. Still, this is better than before. - Matt -- BOINC/SETI@home network/web/science/development person -- "Any idiot can have a good idea. What is hard is to do it." - Jeanne-Claude |
