I know this may sound a bit tired, but did you put the "proxy address" to the setiboinc server in to get work through after the one outage? It worked until Matt turned it off.. Bought the right time frame... NO Proxies! Ocean Archer : Tried that several times ... same result. R/ Pappa Please consider a Donation to the Seti Project. |

There is still paths for Smeghead to travel, but he needs to respond when he can. I'm still waiting to see if he rebooted his puter, and for him to also paste his message logs taken from about 3-4 minutes after rebooting. |

I got it!! mmciAstro : You were right very early on in this thread about the software firewall ... I stated that I did not have one, except ... I use Peerguardian. It was blocking 2 sites that may possibly have dynamic IP's ? Either that, or the addresses were changed after the big maintenance cycle perhaps ?? I allowed them permanently, and BAM! Straight through. Thank you all for your help. Now I will go back into the dark corner and just watch. And for another Rimmerism : "I can honestly say, that I consider you all as ... people I've met." I will look upon you all, as .... people I've met. -Arnold J. Rimmer |

Just incase anyone else runs into a similar issue, this may be your fix. I use BOINC at work, and I'm behind a really locked down proxy. Using older versions of BOINC I had to specify my proxy to connect. By doing so in the new version 5, it was giving that -106 error as seen above, as well as refusing to download the files that the othyer guy was having issues with too. I spose in future I should RTFM, lol , seeing as I noticed the chnage log mention that BOINC now checks for a proxy, but it took me 30 minutes to realise that might be the issue. Cheers, RATLSNAKE |

This is probably the wrong board to put this on but there are too many to look thru. I have v4.45 running on a P-II 300mhz windows (98 orig.) machine w/384(max)ram. 2 gb available space on the drive (have a couple other drives w/more space). BOINC reports one unit completed and sent back. next unit is taking 71 hours so far. to completion reported 9+hrs but now reports 97 hours. don't know what is going on. seticlassic usually took 24 hrs. to complete unit - regular as prune juice. course i don't have anything to show for it since march when they quit logging my time but kept sending work. i'm new to boinc but long time seti fan. what's with this boinc stuff? so far not impressed. lots more effort on my part, lots more drag on my computer, and not much results. and what's with all this preference control and everything being online? I'm on dialup and hate to have to log in evertime I want to reset my preferences (especially while tryingto find some setting that works). any thoughts? thanks, e |

edx, I've got a pentium II 350mhz with 128mb ram, and it only takes ~18 hours... The only thing I can think of right off the bat is to go into the bios and make sure it's actually set at 300mhz. I've run across a few that reset themselves to 133mhz when they've been worked on, or in one case if you just looked at it odd. |

seticlassic usually took 24 hrs. to complete unit - regular as prune juice. course i don't have anything to show for it since march when they quit logging my time but kept sending work. The Classic stats are "up to the minute" on the classic pages; the data was transferred to the BOINC pages 3/15/05. Because of the time it takes to transfer hundreds of thousands of records, this won't be updated again until Classic shuts down - at that point, any work done since March for Classic will show up. I can't help with your system speed issue, but I'm sure others will chime in soon... |

This is probably the wrong board to put this on but there are too many to look thru. Win98 and Boinc don't play well together. Rom is working on a fix release that will include some win98 enhancements. That said, I think your puter has two instances of Boinc running or some other processes running at the same time. Press "Ctrl", "Alt", and "Del" keys at the same time once, this will open a box where you'll see the running processes. You should see ONE instance of Boinc, Boincmgr, and setiathome_4. if you see two of any of them then you need to fix it. Let me know tony |
