I'm quite sad to hear that Rocky has passed on. I just really didn't expect to hear such news. I know that from reading his posts that he was a good human being.

Rocky, perhaps if there is some way you could hear me, I would like to tell you something that I said to you long ago: Thank you Rocky, may your vessel continue to sail.

Let's meet in Rocky's cafe and have a wake for Rocky tonight.

Let's have a drink of his Jack Daniels and share our memories about him and how he made us smile!

Rocky...

Your presence on these boards (and this orb) was truly a blessing. Rest in Peace, My Friend!

for Rocky... A Sailor's Prayer

Now I lay me down to sleep,
I pray the Lord my soul to keep.
Grant no other sailor take,
My shoes and socks before I wake.

Lord guard me in my slumber,
And keep my hammock on its number.
May no clews nor lashings break,
And let me down before I wake.

Keep me safely in thy sight,
And grant no fire drills tonight.
And in the morning let me wake,
Breathing scents of sirloin steak.

God protect me in my dreams,
And make this better than it seems.
Grant the time may swiftly fly,
When myself shall rest on high,
In a snowy feather bed,
Where I long to rest my head.

Far away from all these scenes,
From the smell of half-baked beans.
Take me back into the land,
Where they don't scrub down with sand.

Where no Demon Typhoon blows,
Where the women wash the clothes.

God thou knowest all my woes,
Feed me in my dying throes.
Take me back I'll promise then,
Never to leave home again.

This thread nearly had me crying.

Having joined the community only ~2 mths ago and being no very regular visitor of the Café I didn't know mlcudd better than from the 'laughing' thread. Only now I re-read some of his more recent postings.

I doubt if Rocky would have expected your touching words, but I'm shure he would be proud of them. And I hope his family will see them.

My sincere compliments on the friendship in your group.

Respectfully

Greybeard

No, I'm not intending to usurpate his signature - but here and now it's adequate.

Thanks all for your kind words. It really means so much to all
of us who knew Rocky. I am comforted buy it. I knew Rocky only by The boards, Private Emails and Phone calls. Let me tell you Rocky had a heart of gold and always put others needs before his own. Rocky had a disability that is similar to my own only his was much worse.

His greatest joy was his "Beloved" wife 2 Daughters and a grandchild.
He loved to sing and this past July 4th he sang in front off a couple hundred thousand people singing patriotic songs and the national anthem.

Rocky's Family had to move and finding a place to accommodate his disabilities and financial problems proved to be overwhelming to him but he did not complain and said nothing to anyone that his condition was worsening. Only after he knew his family was safe and secure did he go to the hospital "for a tune-up" that was the last time for us to hear or read his words.

I may have never pressed the flesh with Rocky but I loved him so much
He is still an inspiration and I will try to follow his example.

To his friends and Family

Deep peace, pure white of the moon to you.
Deep peace, pure green of the grass to you.
Deep peace, pure brown of the earth to you.
Deep peace, pure grey of the dew to you.
Deep peace, pure blue of the sky to you,
Deep peace of the running wave to you,
Deep peace of the flowing air to you,
Deep peace of the quiet earth to you.
Deep peace of the Sun of peace to you.

His spirit soars amongst the clouds once again. His life, his laughter, his love will live on in the hearts and minds of us all...

I'd rather speak my mind because it hurts too much to bite my tongue.

From The Prophet of Kahlil Gibran:

On Death

Then Almitra spoke, saying, "We would ask now of Death."

And he said:

You would know the secret of death.

But how shall you find it unless you seek it in the heart of life?

The owl whose night-bound eyes are blind unto the day cannot unveil the mystery of light.

If you would indeed behold the spirit of death, open your heart wide unto the body of life.

For life and death are one, even as the river and the sea are one.

In the depth of your hopes and desires lies your silent knowledge of the beyond;

And like seeds dreaming beneath the snow your heart dreams of spring.

Trust the dreams, for in them is hidden the gate to eternity.

Your fear of death is but the trembling of the shepherd when he stands before the king whose hand is to be laid upon him in honour.

Is the shepherd not joyful beneath his trembling, that he shall wear the mark of the king?

Yet is he not more mindful of his trembling?

For what is it to die but to stand naked in the wind and to melt into the sun?

And what is to cease breathing, but to free the breath from its restless tides, that it may rise and expand and seek God unencumbered?

Only when you drink from the river of silence shall you indeed sing.

And when you have reached the mountain top, then you shall begin to climb.

And when the earth shall claim your limbs, then shall you truly dance.
