Good heavens, you mean I slept through all this? :)

Thank you all. And, it all started when I kept forgetting how things worked. As Dr. Mrs. Ryan says, "if it isn't written down ..." :)

Congratulations Paul!

When I began with SETI/Boinc I could solve all my problems without the need of a single post in the boards. Got along just by reading your docs. Thank you for all your help!
Rudi.

Congratulations Paul.

You at least know that a few of us know what you have done and reconize your name and can associate it with your work.

You are still asleep an this is all a dream.

Rudi,

THAT is the best thing that happened to me this week ...

The whole point of the exercise was to try to make it so that people CAN do as you did. I know I am still a long way from being "done" (as we say, what ever done means).

But, the good news is that each page in is one more page that may help someone...

According to the web stats my provisioner provides we are at about 30,000 page hits a month now ... of course, 20,000 may be me making corrections ... :)

"The hardest part of the whole software development is documentation"

Not just software, anything! You buy a washing machine, a television, a car, a computer - the documentation is always the LAST thing they seem to think about. And a new user to ANY system needs to know how to use it properly!

Full marks to PDB for sorting this out with SETI/BOINC, and giving us all an excellent set of reference documents to, er, refer to!

Well deserved accolade.

Yes, generally you're right, my Sister (am I right?) with Glittering Eyes. But here we are around pure software and have nothing to do with washing mashines and other hardware as far at it serves our goals.

Once again: Mee-e-eow to Paul!

Wow. So it's a great success then. Congratulations to your success! When they put in a link to your Wiki docs in BoincMgr, there'll be even more hits. :)

Probably will never happen ... Dr. Anderson and I have a different view of how comprehensive the BOINC Wiki should be and its general tone. I feel we are way under-documenting and do not have enough material. And I think that there is a place for humor and, in general, a less serious overall tone.

As a private individual writing my own "stuff" that is probably an Ok position. Anyway, different images of what is needed ...

{edit}
Stay tuned ... I have been working on the next release of the Wiki software and also looking into custimizations a little bit ... my biggest hope is to improve searching ...

They put a link on the front page, so I don't see why they shouldn't put it in BoincMgr. It was also one of the most wanted in the Wishlist thread.

Is it possbile to put in the Google search engine link on the Main_Page?
For site search, I mean. :)

For what it is worth, it is in the help menu of BOINC View.

That is what I am trying to do ... I did a test and it does "work", but, like all packaged applications you have to learn how to "tickle" it to do what you want. Worse, the newest version seems to have changed this very area so getting it to work for v1.4 does not mean I will be able to make it work in v1.5 ...

And, every hour I spend on that is one less hour on content ... so, I have a balancing act to do ... and I am missing FOOTBALL ... :)

Back to the games ...
