I would like there to be "Data Unit" stats, so that I can see, as in the Try Boinc Spy, or Map View from http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/download_network.php Also, this BOINC (acronym for us getting screwed?) program Microsoft has given up on updates of Windows 98, so pray and tell why any program maker should fix its workings for an OS this old? Why can't you at least install Windows 2000? Else become part of the Alpha group of testers. The Alpha front page has more on that. It has NO eye-candy {snip} Try any of the 3rd party download programs. Eye candy may slow it down even further though. And with the upcoming client on its way that will slow down the crunching by as much as 10 times, whicle getting up to 75% more data out of a WU as the present client does, you want more slowness on your Win98 system? ;) Man, you're really into S&M. :-D |

I would like there to be "Data Unit" stats, so that I can see, as in the previous so-called 'Classic' SETI@home, which quadrant of the sky it came from at which observatory, and on what date it was taken. Also, this BOINC (acronym for us getting screwed?) program has murdered my computer's speed and page-file usage in Windows98, when I run other programs at the same time. It would be nice if that were fixed. It has NO eye-candy, or even the option for such, as it did in the Classic version, which even if it did take as much time to produce as the actual calculation, it was interesting to look at. Right now we only have a bunch of gibberish and '97.2%' to look at until it decides it's time to update the display-- whereas in the previous Classic client, it updated all the numbers often (also room for options). There's no frequency analysis, no mention of 'Forrier' analysis, no search for 'Gaussians', no pulses, no little 2-D graph, no nothing. At least once I'd like to see that little flying saucer in the middle of the noise of my frequency analysis, that would be supoib! -James |

Under Windows, I use 2 programs, BoincLogX to log the data and SETI@Home-MapView to view it. You will need a similar setup, there are many programs that do a similar job, some in more detail. JimK has pointed out where you can find links to them. For Linux I often use KBoincSpy for KDE which as well as doing BOINC control and SETI logging, has a star chart built in for SETI. There are several other programs that can log SETI data and/or control BOINC. These are just personal recommondations but they work for me. Need help? Check out the excellent Unofficial BOINC-Wiki! 'We are the BOINC. Prepare to be assimilated.' |

I would love to see some better stats. Would love to see in my stats how many of the signals I have processed were worth taking another look at. Also, maybe my highest ranked signals. Even being able to take another look at that signal in the screensaver so that I could learn to spot what we are all looking for would be very nice. The "credits" are meaningless to me... I am interested in the progress (or lack thereof) we are all making. |
