Well it looks like Trend Micro had locked a port down, crashed, and somehow saved the setting to keep the port locked - even without it running.

I uninstalled Trend, and like magic could connect to Predictor again.

I can see the website from work, so I know I won't be getting any more new work units. I can upload from work fine as well.

However, at home I can't see the website, or upload any results. I get as far as wahoo.sdsc.edu and then it stops. I have switched off the firewall and it made no difference.

From their home page.

9/19/05

Monday and Tuesday of next week, Sept 26 and 27, we will be upgrading both the operating system and the server software. Between now and then there won't be any workunits sent out, but you should be able to upload all your results. Monday the website will be offline. It may be late Tuesday before new work is sent out.

I'm having the same problem with Predictor. I haven't been able to upload anything from the computers at home since Sep 19. I can tracert as far as wahoo.sdsc.edu, after that it doesn't work.

At work (where I didn't think to check the tracert) it is working fine, and even using the same ISP as the computers at home.

Any ideas?

Reminded me of a sig I see on an email list:
No trees were harmed in the production of this e-mail, however a huge
number of electrons were horribly inconvenienced.

Carry on...

Foxfire had nothing to do with it comming back. Below is from the news at Predictor:

9/13/05

File uploads have been enabled. The scheduler has been enabled.

9/12/05

System crashed because of failed root drive over the weekend. The scheduler will be offline until the new drive arrives.

It appears that PPAH has died on us again.
A trace gets as far as wahoo.sdsc.edu and a ping fails. Looks like David Braun needs help with the server there.

Oh dear!

Odd, it works on my web server, so why not my PC?

Anybody understand?

I appear to have a DNS issue?

I don't know.

Try a restart.. Arent pc's fun.....

Yes they are. And I can't easily restart.
It doesn;t seem to be a DNS issue at all.

Very odd!

Restart Firefox and see what happens.

They are having problems with a HD crash and some scripting issue that is supposed to be repaired today so probably had to take everything off line to fix it all.

To truly explore, one must keep an open mind...
