This wasn't the case under pre-BOINC though, was it? So what has changed.

Anyway redundant question really - I guess after 5 years of running SETI it's about time I freed up the 13 odd machines we have running it. Was nice pre-BOINC but the feedback, presentation and such has really taken the shine off this project now.

Yes, it was the case with Pre-BOINC. SETI Classic had no direct contact either. Nothing has changed indeed.

If there were, they simply couldn't handle the volume of emails. There's only roughly five people working there, and they have to split their time between working on the servers, software, science and their own personal lives.

The external website seems to be ordained by BOINC as it is listed on the front page. Any questions can be placed on these boards, user-to-user manned by volunteers like yourself.

What could possibly be so secretive about credits that you cannot/do not want to post them here that someone else might possibly know the answer to? Especially since they may have talked to the devs themselves through email, so they could answer just as well as the devs and save the devs some time.

More than likely it is because they don't have the resources required to handle the mass of traffic they would get. Most questions get answers fairly quickly here on the forums. A lot of questions people ask have already been answered or the info is readily available, it would waste a lot of time for the SETI team if they had to wade through those redundant questions.

I don't recall any more readily available email address for "Classic SETI" than there is now. The only thing that has changed with SETI BOINC is the program. It is the same group of people at Berkeley with the same email addresses they have always had. If anything has changed it is that some of the team read and respond to these message boards more than they used to on the classic boards.

NBeither are links within the SETI project though, are they? And that was the thrust of my question - not having to go searching trhough external web sites.

The basic question still stands - why no READILY published address for non-public questions on the SETI project?

Why is there no readily available email address for contacting the SETI team now? I have a question which is not one I particualrly want to place in a public forum but there appears to be no other alternative now - why is this?

I have to say that having been part of SETI now 5 years the transition to BOINC has been, IMHO, one of disappointment - particularly when you try to find out why credits claimed are nothing like credits provided - it really makes me think that I am wasting my time...
