OK -- As far as I know, the service install, is only available for NT based OS's, i.e. NT4, Win2K, WinXP, Win 2k3, Longhorn? The service setup in 2K, and 2k3 is identical to that of XP. Linux users can install as a service, in a whole range of different ways, which I am far too unqualified to even begin to go into. On Win 95, 98, and ME, the boinc manager is usually invoked from the 'startup' group of the 'start menu', I think the command line boinc client could probably be run by invoking it from the 'autoexec.bat' file, but I don't have Win 9x on anything to try it. Ken P. Ken Phillips BOINC question? Look here "The beginning is the most important part of the work." - Plato |

OK -- Now, how do you do this under WindowsME or Windows 2000? |

Just one cavet with running Boinc service as "Local System Account". This gives BOINC a lot more privleges than running as a user. As such, you are opening a door for some project to run malicious code. I honestly believe that all of the projects that are currently running are legitimate, but there could be some day someone who isn't so ligit. |

I have solution for problem with showing graphics in BOINC. The only thing you have to do is: It is not needed to allow service to interact with desktop. All work well (TESTED). |

You could have taken use of the search feature of this forum and search for "service graphic" and it would have lead you to even to the thread: Graphics when Running As Service (29 March 2005) Don't be too hard on the guy, the search function can be extremely difficult to use unless you know exactly what you are doing. Need help? Check out the excellent Unofficial BOINC-Wiki! 'We are the BOINC. Prepare to be assimilated.' |

I have solution for problem with showing graphics in BOINC. The only thing you have to do is: 1. Open "Computer Management" (Right click on "My Computer" and click on "Maintenace") 2. Open "Services and applications" and select "Services". 3. Find service called "BOINC", double click on it and open the second tab called "Login". 4. Set login from "This account:" to "Local system account" and click "OK" to save chcanges. And that's it! Restart service or computer and graphics will show now! |
