I haven't checked the boards in months and months, so I find it unbelievable that so many people are still feeling screwed over about the BOINC software. I myself tried to install it, and while I'm a fairly smart person (I build computers, so I have some brain cells), I thought the software ... well... sucked, and went back to Classic. Not to mention it didn't convert all my pre-existing credit over. Hey, when I started this in 1999, it took over 12 hours for my PC to do one work unit, so those credits were a source of pride (not to mention the wear and tear on my computer, running the CPU hot all the time). I finally reached the 1000 mark and was looking forward to getting my certificate today, only to find it's only counting 885 credits. Sure, sure, they'll be tallied up at some unspecified date when Classic shuts down. Whatever. I've lost faith "they" can even get that right. So, you guys, people have been upset about BOINC and saying they'd leave for a very long time now, and the SETI people do nothing. They obviously aren't listening to us. I know they are a small staff and are busy, but we have been loyal members of the team, who are apparently only being used. |

Well it is a simple enough program, just takes a little leg work to fine tune. Your Classic credits can be added to your acct if certain info is in your poss possession. Hmm, it is very hard to USE a volunteer, as we are all volunteers, it is our choice as to whether we stay or leave, simple but effective....... The Classic credit figure is from March 15, as you can see, so this would lead me to believe that at the end of Classics life another snap shot will be taken so the remainder of your precious credit will be added to your acct...... Step by step by step Guide for Getting started in BOINC Link to Unoffical BOINC Wiki Classic Acct. Updating If you had an account in the original 'SETI@home Classic' project as of 15 March 2005: We've transferred your account, including profile and team information. You must now activate the account. ... and enter your SETI@home Classic password If you don't have your password, you won't be able to activate your account; instead, just create a new account. Customizing SETI@home graphics Semper Eadem So long Paul, it has been a hell of a ride. Park your ego's, fire up the computers, Science YES, Credits No. |

Quote from the update page: "If you had an account in the original 'SETI@home Classic' project as of 15 March 2005: We've transferred your account, including profile and team information. There lies my problem. I have no memory of ever having had or having set a password for my SETI@home client. Further complicating matters, the e-mail address I originally used with SET@home has been out of service for years. Even the company that provided it no longer exists as such, having been bought out by another ISP. I have over 1100 work units in SETI@home classic logged, and no way that I know of to get credit for them, due the way they have the system of transfer to the BOINC software set up. Is there any way to get the account they had set up for my Classic totals transferred, or can anyone tell me if the SETI@home program would have my password stored anywhere? The situation frustrates me no end. Thanks in advance for any help you can offer. B*B, Julian Woodrobin |

Quote from the update page: If I recall there is a file called state.sah that has a large amount of informationn in it. You might look there to see if it has enough information. You can also see if the domain that used to host your email account is available and if it is, you could buy it for a year to get your email. If it is not, you can beg them to forward your email to you for a bit. BOINC WIKI |
If I recall there is a file called state.sah that has a large amount of informationn in it. You might look there to see if it has enough information.
Thanks. The information was actually in user_info.sah, but your suggestion headed me in the right direction. I wouldn't have thought that those files could be opened and read if you hadn't mentioned them. I was able to link my Classic account to the account I set up with my current e-mail address when I downloaded the BOINC software. B*B, Julian Woodrobin |

I found my password stored on the result_head.sah file. The password was stored as the user ID. |

I found my password stored on the result_head.sah file. The password was stored as the user ID. Now that is interesting information. I am going to send this to P.D. Buck for inclusion in the WIKI. BOINC WIKI |

I found my password stored on the result_head.sah file. The password was stored as the user ID. I believe this should be verified as the user ID in the result_head.sah on my host does not correspond to the one I used as password. |

I found my password stored on the result_head.sah file. The password was stored as the user ID. I have long since lost my password and my original email address is toast, as the ISP is long gone. I used the number indicated in the user ID, my old email address, and voila, logged on NO problem! Maybe I got lucky! |

It doesn't work for me. The instructions lie, BOINC has never asked for my account code. I give up, I have tried every suggestion I've seen, nothing works. Boinc still says that I don't have an account with SETI. After 6 years I'll find something else to use spare cpu for, SETI has blown it! |

It doesn't work for me. OK, let's try following. If you still have Seti Classic on your host, open the user_info.sah file you can find under the Seti@Home folder with any word editor (select to open any type of file), like NotePad, WordPad or Word. Select the full text, use Ctrl-C, go to the special form to recover your password, left click with the mouse inside the empty field and use Ctrl-V. This should have paste now the content of the user_info.sah file inside that field. Hit the "submit" button. Your password and e-mail address of Seti Classic should then appear at the upper left part of that webpage. Now go here, fill in your recovered e-mail address of Classic in the upper part and in the lower part "... or if you've already created a SETI@home/BOINC account and want to link it to your SETI@home Classic account:" fill in the Email address of your existing SETI@home/BOINC account the Account key of your SETI@home/BOINC account and your recovered SETI@home Classic password and use the "link to existing account" button. |

I found my password stored on the result_head.sah file. The password was stored as the user ID. I also found my password in the result_head.sah file, but Seti would except it. So how can i get my password to my old Seti account? Thanx, Fox Muldar... |

I found my password stored on the result_head.sah file. The password was stored as the user ID. That was a bit of misinformation that the SETI password is in the result_head.sah file and it just won't go away. To retrieve your classic SETI password using your user_info.sah file use this form: http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/sah_classic_user_info.php |
