For those of us that hate / dispise BOINC can we go back to using the old system. I mean really I dont care much for the boinc or credits or any of this other new sh*t , so for those of us that love the old system and really dont care for any of this new stuff like me , is there a way for us to still use the old system and get our unit counts? If not I may serious consider trashing Seti@home on every system I own because this new BOINC stuff is BS in my opinion (translated into: i hate this and want to continue to use the old ver.) Either way I still have and will continue to save the "old" Seti@home setup file just in case , also the "new" screensaver is crap. Every time it kicks on I move the mouse / hit a key to go back to windows it down. I had to do a cold shutdown of my system to get it back (another reason I dislike BOINC). Anyone that is still after the old software incase we can ever use it again email me and I will get it to you. ![]() ![]() |

The old stuff will be shut down soon so bye bye I guess...... Semper Eadem So long Paul, it has been a hell of a ride. Park your ego's, fire up the computers, Science YES, Credits No. |

I like you have been very impatient with Boinc. But helping SETI@home & Einstein@Home is important work. I had to take a reality check and I chose to be more patient. The 4 people at SETI in Berkeley work very hard and they really do a good job in spite of hardware problems. Some day they will get on top of the hardware problems and improve the screensavers in such a way that doesn't cause a client error. This is a work in progress. As for me I will stick with them, their good folk. This is good science. Signed, Ronald C. Spencer Astronomer24357.com |

Boinc and the new Seti is doing work that the Classic could never do. They are working on looking at the data deeper and deeper, allowing them to find more than just signals. It's a whole new world. The old Seti could not do anything this new Seti can and will be able to do. It had to be rewritten to allow for the use of the new antennas, etc. It works, it works well. I have several machines 24/7 running Boinc and several projects. Spouting off is doing no one any good. If you do not like it, leave peacefully. You have not given any productive crisisism, or problems you are having. If you ask, people are willing to help. Swearing, bashing, etc. will get you no where. ![]() My movie https://vimeo.com/manage/videos/502242 |

I am a long time follower of the SETI program and have used the screen saver for quiet a few years now. I have tried Boinc and have decided to use SETI classic until the time comes when I no longer can download work units. I have read the arguments for Boinc, I really have no desire to analyze anything other than SETI signals. I have enjoyed participating in SETI, but when I can no longer receive work units for SETI classic, I will remove the program from my computer. |

Understood that not all people are going to be happy. Just understand that the old software's data is flawed, and that it isn't doing much good to science, anymore. Seti will be looking for signals as the first item. They switch software to accomidate the ability to add on the new antennas coming online. Everything else is secondary. The science is going to get better. Your time was appriciated. It'll be sad to lose anyone. It is going to happen, I know, but I believe the science has a long way to go. Good luck in your future endevors. ![]() My movie https://vimeo.com/manage/videos/502242 |

Well sir, there may be a lot of reasons as to why BOINC is a problem on your system. #1-SETI classic does not require as robust a computer hardware setup then BOINC, but then again SETI classic is not doing as complicated a number crunching as BOINC either. #2-If you so not have sufficient RAM on the board then you will have problems anyway with either one. I have a P2 533 currently running SETI BOINC and it was slower than a slug on Valiums until I maxed out the RAM on the board. #3-If you want faster computation for either SETI classic or BOINC than you should not run the screensaver at all. It truly is a resource hog and definately slows down the computation, especially Seti classic. #4-Lastly, if none of these suggestions work for you, and you want to run a program that is obsolete, and are in it for the credit and statistics instead of the pure science, then I have one thing to say.......Goodbye and have a nice day. Ok , maybe I was over reacting a bit , but still I love the Seti classic... I mean the BOINC does have its advantages and stuff , and with all things they can and will change over time , but for most people it's hard to adjust to new things when your use to something old that you love. Either way what the other person / poster said bout havin a bad system or something is half true for me memory and CPU wise. So I will give this a shot on my laptop which is running Windows XP Pro SP2 and has a 2GHZ CPU with 512mb of memory (soon to be maxed out @ 2gb) and a 80GB hd with 68some odd gb free. So maybe I will and hopefully should have better luck with it on my laptop. Either way I'm not going to quit just yet. Also to the person who made the comment bout being in it for credits and such that's like 10% true the other 90 is for the science. Either way once I get everything going , I'll update this post / reply to it to let everyone know how its going. To all who read this post I bid you a good day. ![]() ![]() |

To all who read this post I bid you a good day. Good luck to you and I really hope it works out. I too was one of the last persons to switch to SETI Boinc as I was a 'loyal classic fan'. Once I got BOINC to work I was pleasantly surprised to find out I could do more than one project at a time. That is when I also decided to add more PC's to my farm. By the end of this week coming I should have 5 boxes running various BOINC projects. It's the science, and maybe some credit too. Susan R. Anaconda_469 ![]() |

I may have been a little hasty in my first opinion of BOINC. Therefore I am going to try again without any prejudices ( I hope!) I may have had in the beginning. My main reason is I am a huge believer in life out there and hope we find it someday. Or perhaps they will find us. |

My main reason is I am a huge believer in life out there and hope we find it someday. Or perhaps they will find us. Welcome back! Good to see you have decided to try again! I hope it goes smoothly for you. Things are starting to work smoother for most. There are some peering problems in the world wide Internet, and some people are now forced to use proxies, because of this. Validating is a little behind, but that part is being worked on as we speak. They had a plan for their weekely outage today to try and make it work a little better. Time will tell. I hope you look into other projects, also. Einstein is looking for Pulsars, Protein Predictor, Climate Predictor, LHC Cern Magnet, and many others are out there or will soon be out there. Great to see you try. Good luck in your endevors. ![]() My movie https://vimeo.com/manage/videos/502242 |

With BOINC, you choose the projects that you want to join. However, all projects have outages. So you can join only S@H if that is all you want to do. You may also be interested in an upcomming and somewhat related project - Planet Quest - the search for planets orbiting other stars, or maybe your aren't. You can also choose to have a very low resource share project (works better with later versions of the software) that normally doesn't download much work, but will keep your CPU warm if S@H is out of work, or not as you choose. But when S@H does run short of work, or has an outage, you have been warned that it will happen. ![]() ![]() BOINC WIKI |

I'm gonna continue to run it with BOINC until classic finally kicks the bucket. As you can se from my sig I'm tryin to join every program because hey I wana help. Also if anyone else has a workin message@home project can you plz ICQ me @ 153680068 for those of you that use ICQ because I need a message@home members help wih somehing , Thx. ![]() ![]() |
