I like yours best! LOL

No matter what someone says, it has to get personal, doesn't it?

Regardless of what you think of BOINC, the personal attacks go way beyond the valley of good taste. Even if you think BOINC is fatally flawed, criticizing the people behind it just isn't appropriate.

How can you type with those pompoms? I guess they keep dust off your keyboard!

I see you have donned the badge of "SETI boards cynic"....

Why don't you quote only what you are replying to. If you just have to reply above quotes, at least that would make it more sensible.

And the bickering and the flaming and the bitching goes on. Got home from work tonight, see that my credit has gone up, so obviously the validators are working, just very sluggish, and yet we have people who have to continue complaining and bashing UCB and the people who enjoy volunteering their computers to them.

Weather its for attention, or just to sit in front of a computer to see how many people you can get pissed off or under their skin, its getting old here.

Go out, get a life, do something other than sitting there trying to get a high off of doing the crap you do.

No wonder many people quit posting or even bothering to read the NC boards. Too much crap and bitching.

If I pissed ya off by what I said, good, I don't care. Enjoy.

... and the amount of ridicule that our fellow forum members get for suggesting that just maybe BOINC works is also just plain wrong.

The cheerleaders exist because a few people are constantly burning the BOINC and/or SETI staff in effigy.

If "common courtesy" and "cheerleading" are the same thing, then I guess I'm a cheerleader.

In the meantime, according to BOINCstats.com, the total number of credits issued in the past 24 hours is 5,230,080, and there are 1,286 new hosts crunching.

What are Pom-Poms?
Are they some form of USA Fetish?

Some would say Fetish....
Large round bits of thin strips of paper held by cheerleaders at sporting events.
here
In this context, something held by anyone who supports the home team even when the score is hopeless.

Now I understand...
I would say "someone who blows their own trumpet"...
Now the rest of this thread makes a wee tad of sence.
Whats wrong with "supporting the home team, even when the score is hopless" though.
Pass my trumpet, it needs a good blow, on Berkelys side...
Puff Puff.

I think those saying "burn the pom-poms" are trying to say that those who point out how well things are actually working are cheering, despite the fact that the project is hopelessly broken (in their opinion) -- that anyone who thinks that the project works is a mindless fool, blind to any problems.

Many of the cheerleaders are saying "if things are so horrible, how come work is getting done?"

I see the transition queue has emptied, and now the validation queue size is going down. That's a good thing.

I think a part of the "PomPom Burning" is that a User "can not" state I have a problem and get help from other Users... Without the "Just Be patient." IF UCB monitored things properly then they would be aware of problems and that Users are helping Users get around the problems... Otherwise there is a BUG! Or they have a BUG in the Servers or Client that is causing Users issues... That lack of "apparent" concern and correction of the problem is what caused 5,000,000 users to leave Classic... It would seem that the same level of concern is/may have been carried over to Seti BOINC.

Users are what makes "Seti" Work. Users helping Users is what makes Seti Work! Why is/are the UCB Staff not helping?

Oh, God, this thread could go on to eternity, and beyond...

I'm still waiting for several hundred credits...

Pom-Poms are still in their packets at the mo, given the present difficulties... might get 'em out next week, lets see how it pans out.

I do not disagree with you that we should stop whining. But we should let everybody have a view....their view.

Also leadership is not just by example......its often about listening, consdidering, taking account of diverse views and acting accordingly. So let's do that eh?

Those who have been around here for a while have seen it many times:

Several folks say something like "Look at how everything is backed up! We can't connect to the servers! This will never recover."

BOINC/Seti is a failure.

... and a few days later, it catches up, credit is granted, life is good.

And there are a million and 1 posts about this very thing. As I've said before, why sit there and watch your computer after all the outages? It runs fine when you sleep, it runs fine when you go to the store, when you go to work, but then theres an outage and all of a sudden the program is broken. Gotta sit in front of the computer and watch when Berkley gets things running again, that way I know my program isn't broken.

Oh well. Myself, along with many many others have backup programs to keep the computer's happily crunching something. Weather its Seti, Einstein, CPDN, LHC, or whatever else is out there.

Thats my 2 cents worth. Enjoy, happy crunching!
