I use a sheet of paper. My hands sweat a little more than most people. If I use a mouse pad I wind up with it being a wet sponge. WIth the paper, when it starts to get wet and tacky, take it out and put in another. Since they are all reject print jobs, I rarely have to use a new sheet.

I got a blister on my mouse finger from reading the wiki! :D

Last word, no one has been injured or killed by reading any of the Wiki content.

btw, I'm not sure what all this means as of yet, but I decided to post the Bionic benchmark just to see if it's me or the whole process. Keep in mind that I DO NOT have a home pc, instead I'm on a laptop.

The benchmark, though used for a number of functions is not well regared by any of us doig BOINC. This includes the developers and Dr. Anderson. The only problem is that there is not a clear and obvious way out of the dilemma in which we find ourselves.

So, for the moment we live with it. To compensate for this lack of accuracy we have a few things in the later versions that will continue to mitigate the side-effects of the benchmark weaknesses. The mechanism to compensate for the possibility of a person to "hack" the BOINC Daemon and to claim 20 bazillion Cobblestones is handled by tossing the highest score. To prevent them from "cloning" results is the fact that you can only report those work units you have been issued.

As others have said, the Wiki is an excelent place to start to look for answers. I suggest when asked that you take a little tour and visit the block of links on the first page down at least one level so you can get a "feel" for what is available. All the common concepts and key words are linked in almost all cases at each and every occurrence so you don't have to rely on memory. But you have to follow those links for them to help you out. :)

Content expands virtually every day, when I am doing reasonably well I add about 5-20 new pages of content daily. I also run, on average, 75 or more edits a day. Even better, there are 14 or so other people with edit rights that add content, correct my mistakes, and in general improve the content. We also do requests ... :)

Last word, no one has been injured or killed by reading any of the Wiki content.

There is a way to look at what everyone is claiming for a particular work unit.

If you click on "Your Account" at the top of the page. Then go down and click on "view computers". Then click on the blue number of the computer that you want to check. Then click on the blue number next to where it says results. Now try clicking on one of the blue numbers under the "work unit id" column.

That will show you what everyone else is claiming in the group that worked on the same work unit as you.

You can also click around from there and see what sort of machine that they used and what sort of client.

I'm very new here so first I ask that no-one flame me. My question is, why is my "granted credits" much lower than my Claimed credits? IMO, if you finish your work and keep things updated, you should be able to get the ammount of creds that the program automatically claims. If I'm wrong here or if someone can helpme undertand better, please feel free to reply.

Thanks

I don't think you are wrong. I have been lucky lately as my "granted credits" are much higher than my Claimed credits.

I think the problem lies in the fact that different processors and operating systems are claiming different amounts for the same work unit. Maybe someday things will be worked out that all the variations and combinations of computers and operating system will be fine tuned to ask for the same credit for the same work.

Welcome to Boinc

The granted credits are calculated from the claimed credits of those who complete the unit, so that each one gets the same 'pay' for the same work done.

The main problem with all the different hardware/operating sytems/boinc CC versions/project versions is the Benchmark.

The benchmark is a much smaller program than the science programs and give widely varying results, and is not helped if you have a multiple CPU or a CPU with HT as it is divided by the number of cpu's.

The benchmark determines the predicted time a unit will take to complete and using this figure to calculate the number of units you can download dependant on your connection time. It is also used with the actual time to process in calculating the claimed credit.

If you decide to crunch units for more than one project then the benchmark is used in the scheduling calculation for each projects time share.

For lots more useful information search your question in Paul's Wiki.

Basically it takes 3 to validate a WU, so in order to even the playing field the high score is tossed out and the low score is tossed, so all get the middle score....

WHY CREDITS ARE DELAYED

So long Paul, it has been a hell of a ride.

Park your ego's, fire up the computers, Science YES, Credits No.

Hello gigabyte,

The (very good) manual for Boinc is the BoincWiki by Paul D. Buck and Friends.

For information regarding Credits look here!
