A Question : I have been contributing to the SETI Classic program up until this week. Will the results be updated to that date, or only to March 15, as it says in my profile? To March 15, I had 670 units complete, but since then, I have gotten to 1299. Ideally, I would like to gain credit for what I have done to date. Currently, I still have 52.xx credit, but I realise that the system is still catching up. Thanks I will look upon you all, as .... people I've met. -Arnold J. Rimmer |

And I wasted all that time putting that into the FAQ ... :) |

@Paul, I know you continue to be disappointed at the low usage rates for all the carefully gleaned information you have so lovingly assimilated over such a long time. However, the biggest problem is that people don't seem to be prepared to go looking for it themselves and simply ask away without a care in the world as to how many times previously that question might have been asked or what sort of imposition it represents on the poor sod who then attempts to write out YAPATAF (yet another personalized answer to a faq). So here is a suggestion. Let's convince the nice people who jump in immediately and time after time create YAPATAF, to stop doing so. Instead, they could post a canned reply (created and edited and fine tuned by you) that gave links to all the places you have so lovingly created where a newbie might type a basic search term or phrase, etc, with a reasonable expectation of getting useful answers. Things like FAQs, the Wiki, message board search lists, etc could be set up as clickable links that the newbie could easily follow to discover the answer (and hopefully a whole lot more) about whatever they're interested in. All we need is the carefully crafted canned reply which all could use and the resolve not to produce YAPATAF :). Cheers, Gary. |

And I wasted all that time putting that into the FAQ ... :) Sorry about that Paul, I just added a link to the Wiki to my sig, and will make sure to point it out when answering questions. BOINC WIKI Overclockers.com's Forum |

It was supposed to be ajoke but I did not do it well ... I understand the problem and there are no good, or easy, answers ... one of my complaints about the magic of a teaching tool called programmed instructions is they have no mechanism for the unexpected questions. That is why teachers are always needed. But the assumption of all written material is that you know what you are looking for ... anyway, I apologise for the bad joke ... it has not been a good week and does not look like it is getting any better as the days pass by. Which came first, chicken or the Wiki ... must have been the moon ... Another joke ... 10,000 comedians out of work and I have to try to tell poor jokes ... Oh, and the canned messages can be all found in the glossary ... 800 entiries or so, no waiting, easy to get lost ... with perseverence you can even find the jokes in there ... oh, and there are a few in the FAQ too ... unless John took them all out cause he could not understand them either ... :) {edit} It is not all bleak dispair: =================== here are 2608 total pages in the database. This includes "talk" pages, pages about BOINCWiki, minimal "stub" pages, redirects, and others that probably don't qualify as content pages. Excluding those, there are 986 pages that are probably legitimate content pages. There have been a total of 98,149 page views, and 5506 page edits since the wiki was setup. That comes to 2.11 average edits per page, and 17.83 views per edit. |

Don't worry Paul, I was pretty sure you were joking. I still figured adding the Wiki link would help in the future to "teach people to fish". BOINC WIKI Overclockers.com's Forum |

Until I read Paul's second post, I did not get the joke. I just figured he was depressed (and the low usage rates are a bit depressing). BOINC WIKI |

Until I read Paul's second post, I did not get the joke. I just figured he was depressed (and the low usage rates are a bit depressing). You are partly right ... I *AM* depressed ... been a bad week in the casa ... even a terabyte drive has not pulled me out of the funk ... I HAVE managed to get it set-up and started loading it up with files ... only about another 500G to migrate to it ... I gotta remember to not try to tell jokes when I am this far gone ... But the good news is that we probably are getting more traffic than before. Partly because we have a lot more useful content ... though there is still lots of room for improvement. I just updated the images for the Owner's Manual and realized I stillhave a few that need to go up, and at least 3 new ones ... While I am thinking about it ... anyone got the Proxy stuff figured out cause we don't have much there ... I have one sample for the pages but I am not even sure if we have that part started. Like the languages ... oh, well, not like I was all caught up anyway ... |
