Did you install 4.71 to the same directory where you had the old client installed and did you uninstall the old client before you installed 4.71?

uh, well, just tried 4.71. I think I will go back to the official version.
Seti is no longer in the project list.
Don't know why.
Just loaded 4.71, ran it, and there are no longer any projects or work units in either BOINC or in the directories.
Just wiped them out.
Trusting that things would be OK, I did not backup before running the alpha 4.71.
So all of the ones I had pending are now lost. No messages in 4.71, just that there was no work to do.
Maybe I should just drink the corn squeezin's myself, and try this again some other day.
This has not been a good week for boinc/seti and me.
I'll reload the official version, and try to re-attach to the project again.
Who knows,
I may get lucky and all of my problems have just been deleted.
Except of course for that darned limit problem.
Probably take 2 mos this time to go from 4 back to normal.
Thanks, and Keep on crunchin'

That sounds pretty strange....mine are all gone (over 200 just disappeared over about 8-9 hours I guess) and as new units complete they just disappear as normal. I guess you just gotta keep trying the button.

Tom, Thanks, most of the time I just sit there and do something else, come back, maybe an hour later, see that nothing has moved, hit retry on all of the transfers, then go on about my own stuff again.
Just now checked, all are still there, none completed.
Hope everyone else is enjoying their updates completing, mine aren't.
The offer has now gone up from a case of beer to a case of corn squeezin's. If you can stomach it.

Which version are you running?

Are you willing to try an Alpha test build to see if that fixes the problem? If so, boinc.ssl.berkeley.edu/download.php?dev=1 and try 4.71.

Try just hitting one or two (I try the oldest). But I should tell you that in the last 1/2 hour Nothing of mine has been moving.

If anyone can get my 50 work units uploaded, and this overcommitted thing to go away, and the 4 work unit per day limit over-ridden, then I'll buy you a case of your favorite beer, maybe some of that great Belgian beer straight shipped from Belgium, after all, they do have the bar that boasts 500 beers.

I don't know if this helps, but you may remember that the Update function has had a 10 minute delay to prevent multiple, rapid connection retrys. Now with uploading, it seems that if I stop using the retry button for about 10 minutes, then come back and hit it, selecting at most only two results, one of them will upload (it still takes 20-30 seconds). It's as if there is a 10 minute delay on the retry of uploads now.

This is an optimised SciApp with the basic instrumentation you refrred to or am I getting two things mixed up?

I am talking about the optimized science application like Ned Slider and Mr. "T" compile ...

short answer as I am real trouble today ... better tomorrow ...

We need to think about dial up users....even my 2Meg is taking a fair time to get this thread up.
PLEASE carry on here guys.

So! You take it upon yourself to spawn/hijack another authors thread. Tsk tsk tsk. That is most un-cool. If the original author wanted to spawn HIS/HER own thread, they would have. I tell you what I'm going to do. I'm going to go through ALL the threads in NC and count how many have the topic of "uploads".

Why ANYONE wants to rehash and rehash and rehash this topic is beyond me. We ALL know that there is a problem. The SETI/BOINC devs KNOW that there is a problem and have posted a notice about that.

You can expect to see posts from me in your myriad other threads....

How many were there when you counted 'em?

Anyhow I think the thread was dead on its feet and there was still plenty of interest. The owner hadn't responded to requests from dial up users in 6 hours so I did it. He did not complain and closed the thread without objection. A little on the non-routine side I agree but when a thread is dead what do you do?

Well I think I would prefer a case of some of that TN pochin you brew out there....or JD. I spent a lot of time in the US and got introduced to a number of "home made" brews.......bhammmmmmmm....my head hurts just remembering.

It will clear soon....but your limit will have to be built up again which may take some time.

LOL! Nothing, Paul, nothing at all except one of those little buns fights we tend to have around here from time to time.

Ah, can't travel, can't drink beer ... two strikes and I am out ... :)

Oh, well, ...

I did make a suggestion in the developer's mailing list last night ... won't prevent problems like this, but it might give the system guys something to hang their hats on ...

Well, I still have most of the computers on "purge" mode ... so when they run out I can try to install an optimized Science Application and test out the procedure we have written ... see if it works or not ...

We waited nearly 6 hours for a new thread.

God forbid if everyone doesn't check in at least once every 6 hours.

What did I miss, what did I miss ...

What are you talking about? I saw no fights. Most people behave here in NC. I saw one, dare I say user, resort to name calling, slinging them here, but that was it. You must be referring to some other board/thread....

Oh ........ so I don't have to buy the beer then?

Message 139569 - Posted: 20 Jul 2005, 13:06:16 UTC

I now have about 50 work units completed, all waiting to be uploaded.
Absolutely NONE have uploaded in over a day now. And when they were uploading, only 1 or 2 a day would upload for over a week. I manually click retry on them, and they still time out and say waiting for xxx.
There are absolutely no projects running now on this boinc computer, and over 50 to upload, and it still says that the computer is overcommitted so it won't download any other projects work units.
BOINC is dead on my computer now due to this overcommitment.

Even after this morning with the good news that all is OK, well, it is not OK. I for one still can't upload.

Remember, I'm just reporting that I am having a problem, I'm not bashing anyone, so please don't bash me for bringing up an issue where this system is not working. Even though some say it is.

As far as this "not being my cup of tea", I would not have joined this if I didn't have the desire to help out in these new unkown worlds. I'm just a frustrated volunteer that has had one problem after another, that everyone else has had, that gets a little frustrated at times like this, because I remember everytime that this has happened, since the new scheduler was implemented, that each time, if Cogent is down for a few days, or if there is an upload problem for a few days, or, etc., well known problems, that I get stuck back to the less than 4 w/u per day limit, and then the computer gets idle for 80% of the day, not able to run any project at all, just because of some other system issue. That is what I see is going to happen now. If I can upload all of these today, I will get limited anyway because the stupid work unit limit message is popping up just now. Then. like every other time in the past when Cogent was down or the server couldn't handle something or a network card got fired, the system says I'm not doing anything so it won't let me continue processing. Until a month passes, then I'm on the good list again. That is what I get frustrated with. Sorry if it rubs you the wrong way, but there should be ways to work around these issues and still keep good standing when things come back online. For me, not so good, as it is, the BOINC is dead, due to its own problems.
Thanks, and Keep on crunchin'

It's looking very much better after the new server is online.

Not really.
See my post in the "Guess what's wrong with uploading" thread.

Hi All,
I got 11 uploads done, however none showing on results page. Tried downloading new WU's, got halfway through after very slow process just to get "download failed". I am on dialup.

Respectfully,

Rocky

YEEEEHAAAA.... I just depleted my transfers tab! Sure is good to see it empty again. Took many, many clicks of the retry button. Just takes patience and a lot of sweet talking of BOINC.... >:-)
