We need to think about dial up users....even my 2Meg is taking a fair time to get this thread up.
PLEASE carry on here guys.

So! You take it upon yourself to spawn/hijack another authors thread. Tsk tsk tsk. That is most un-cool. If the original author wanted to spawn HIS/HER own thread, they would have. I tell you what I'm going to do. I'm going to go through ALL the threads in NC and count how many have the topic of "uploads".

Why ANYONE wants to rehash and rehash and rehash this topic is beyond me. We ALL know that there is a problem. The SETI/BOINC devs KNOW that there is a problem and have posted a notice about that.

You can expect to see posts from me in your myriad other threads....

True, we've deleted all of the conversation from the last 30 minutes or so. :D

Those posts were probably better off deleted anyway.

Jim

Might as well just hide the thread now.

Ok... after reading through the rest of the posts someone else said what I initially said in this post, so I am deleting it. didn't need to be said twice.

We are still trying to figure out if there is a software reason for the connection drops but are looking at a hardware solution for the short term. We are working to get a more powerful data server machine online. There are several parts to making this work and, barring any show stoppers, we hope to have it online in the next couple of days

I think this statement needs expanding somewhat. more details needed. Almost like political spin...

First people complain cause theres no info about the outage, then when someone posts one on the front page, everyone wants an expanation. How much more details are needed. First sentence of the posting says "We are still trying to figure out if there is a software reason for the connection drops but are looking for a hardware solution for the short term." How much more is needed? They are working on the problem. Personally I would like these guys working at berkley to fix the problem, then if they feel we need to know what happend, then let us know. Give them a break. I'm done ranting.

i'm not complaining, (maybe the *political spin* went a bit too far, i apologise), but i would like to know more about the hardware/software solutions is all. I'm quite happy to let results pile up to upload, as long as they get there eventually - i'm in no rush!

And neither am I. My computer sits happily in the corner of my room crunching away, collecting wu's to upload. And if it sounded like my reply was just to you, it wasn't, and I appologize for that as well.

Reading through so may threads about the same issue over and over and over again, it seems as though some just skip over the obvious places to look for answers. In previous outages, they always post more details in the Technical News area explaining in more detail what they had to do or what they need to do to fix the issue at hand. Give it time, things will run smoothly, or somewhat smoothly again. I'm sure these guys have been working on it since they got to work today. Thanks for listening.

I have had some out of date wus credited :-)

Linky

My host is 1016758 which is 2 days late. Overdue as a result of proxy problems my end, aswell as the current upload problems. Not through having negligent cache size ;-)

@ulrich, You might have something there. My Athlonxp 2200+ doesn't upload well at all, but my AMD64 Athlon 3700+ gets most WUs uploaded at some time. strange.

[edit] additional note. My 2200 has a d/l quota of 1/day since I had to reload my OS a couple times and lost WUs. My 3700 has a quota of 100/day.

I see a strange pattern in this...
I have 3 computers running. 2 of them are uploading lousy, but they do to some point. The third 'puter isn't uploading at all. They all use the same proxy of mine. This third one is the slowest of them all (P-III-M 1 GHz) and it is the one wich hasn't uploaded a single result since this whole mess started. This really s*cks big time!
Aloha, Uli
