I'm not able to get this link to work. :( When it shows up in my address bar it has "http://http://"

Jim

ok, I got it to work.
I just made my donation. :)

This issue has been brought up several times in the past year, both here in the Number Crunching forum and over in the Cafe SETI forum, so I found this post by Matt Lebofsky (which is only one of many from him regarding this issue!).

So, the link to the donation site is https://colt.berkeley.edu:444/urelgift/seti.html

Thank you!!!

I don't know what's wrong, it works fine for me! I have taken the link from Matt's post directly, so it should be fine. Maybe it's your browser? It's a https adress, so maybe your browser can't open it because of that?

It's with my browser as well, and strangely it's not with the post adress, which ist wrapped in bbCode as well.
Deleting the first http:// helps, bur not to do it will help more;)

I'll give it a try in html tags here:

Use this for donation ;).

edit: it works fine now /edit

BTW:
I use Netscape 7.1

It doesn't work for me either.

SO let's try that again. https://colt.berkeley.edu:444/urelgift/seti.html

(Adding the url tags adds a stray http:// in front of it)

I am using Win2KPro with all the updates. When I clicked the link in Ms. Hollynoodles post it had "http://https://". Trying to enter the link using the BBCode tags didn't work. Using the HTML tags obviously did work.

thank you.

I went to Matt's post and got it to work before you made this correction, but I'm sure it will help many others in the future. Thank you.

And, thank you Holly for getting this thread going. I hope it helps SETI and BOINC. (the more I use that word BOINC the funnier it sounds. LOL)

I just now donated $25 to SETI. Not much... but what I can afford right now. I'll try to give more later.

Someone suggested a PayPal account would be easier. I support that! Can Berkeley set one up for us? Thanks.

I am sorry...

But I see SUN as a major Sponsor and Obsolete SUN servers running the project... and "You" are digging in your pockets to support something that Seti is not telling us... SUN gets the Tax writeoff... Or are is someone lying again...

While your faith in the project is one thing... Responsibilty for the project is another... Support for the "Faith" in the project has been very lacking... They have created the "largest" project in the world, it is time they are held accountable... Held accountable to the "Users" that Suffer, donate computer costs, time and electricity...

Is it now time for Full Disclosure to the public what makes the project go? They say they have no money... Is it time to tell the truth?

Al

We are working on the particulars in setting up a bank account, but yes - it is true that in the future we will have an easy-to-use donation system via PayPal. Until then, you can still donate by credit card through the university:

The truth is, as with most anything, that costs are dominated by labor. In other words, I gotta eat.

Hey Matt, I'd say that food donations would be out of the question, right? >;-)

Seriously, you guys are doing one heck of a job there, one I do not envy. I'll continue to do my part with donating and crunching WUs. Thanks for the past 6 years, and I hope to be around for at least 3 times that. I will always crunch for SETI. Please pass on my thanks.... >:-)

Speaking of donations, has anyone figured out how to get a tax deduction for cobblestones? I mean there's electricity, depreciation, ...
