The (very good) manual for Boinc is the BoincWiki by Paul D. Buck and Friends. Also quite useful for starting is the MiniFAQ by the TeamACC. A quick installation guide in the Wiki is here. I can't seem to get anywhere. I have been a setiathome user for at least 6 years. I had 25,000 hours of CPU time racked up, running my computer constantly just to keep SETI running. I was in the top 5% of users, and then BOINC came along and I changed my email address and got a new computer. Now I'm denied access to BOINC because I've apparently got an account there at my new email address, and retrieving the user_info.sah off of my old computer to try to link it with a new account yields an invalid password kind of error. I've tried every combination of my old email account, new email account, and passwords to link the things up but nothing works. I would really like to get back to the business of crunching SETI data, but the new system seems to be set up to prevent me from doing this. I have tried just giving in and starting from scratch with BOINC, but this just isn't working. What I would really like to have happen is to get my old workunit credits back, and then get back to looking for ETI. |

It looks like you created a new classic account with the new e-mail address in June (they both have credit in classic) instead of just changing the e-mail address in the classic account. Since the address changed after the last database sync (March), BOINC won't recognize any changes to the classic account since then. If you use the "user_info.sah" or the e-mail address and account key from classic before March and the current BOINC account key, you should be able to link them. I still see potential problems since since you have two classic accounts and they may not be resolved until after the final database sync.

From this thread I have attempted to create a miniFAQ for the Seti@Home boards, which I'm currently hosting on my website. Join TeamACC Sometimes I think we are alone in the universe, and sometimes I think we are not. In either case the idea is quite staggering. |

Hello, despite the useful guides Im still having problems... Ive downloaded Boinc and have had SETI running, but it has stopped, and I want to collect some new work and get it started again :(<p> Anna, Go into the projects tab of the Boinc Manager and see if SETI@home is still in there. If not link backup to the manager, then all should be fine. If it is there, you may need to reattach to the project. Barring that I would need more details on your situation. Galeon 7 I am a Geek. http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/forum_thread.php?id=22667#194010 It seems that the majority of users are frustrated that boinc comes back requesting proxy and socs when the user has none set. Solution is quite simple. Do not open up the Boinc manager. Log onto your SETI account on the internet. After and only after you have logged in open Boinc. Now you can connect to the project and the proxy and socs will not show up. The reason the proxy request shows up is because the user is not logged into the work URL before hand. This has nothing to do with the speed of the servers. It has to do with authentication. Once the user logs onto the web, then they can open Boinc and the proxy request will not come up. They will be able to get in instantly! Galeon 7 PS: When logging on the web check the box to stay on line otherwise repeat these steps. Stayin logged on will get you in automatically every time Boinc is started. PPS: Lost the stickie. My orginal URL is at the beginning of this post. Imagine that. I can solve the logon problem and can't even work stickies lol I am a Geek. We surf in the dark web pages no others will enter. We stand on the router and no one may pass. We live for the Web. A few new users have problem with the URL when connecting to the project in Boinc. I had the same problem on two of my computers. What I found out then, was that my sollution was to restart the computer and try again. Then it worked excellent for me. Also remember the huge amount of new users that are trying to connect at once now. It is possible that the servers and/or database can be overloaded. If so, try again in an hour or two. You can also try to connect to another Boinc project and see if that works better. If none of the above works, you should take a look at your firewall-settings. I haven't had any problems there, so I can't help with that. But my expirience with Boinc so far is very good, and I hope you will have the same when you get things up and running. Greetings from Norway. Crunching is fun!

I found a rather interesting post. I believe that it will save many people trouble in attaching to their classic accounts. I believe this should be verified as the user ID in the result_head.sah on my host does not correspond to the one I used as password. |

The password was stored as the user ID. http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/forum_thread.php?id=18671#191186 [edit] added link [/edit] BOINC WIKI |

Hi, Info from Classic is on your Boinc Acct.click on your name at the left in this post...... "If you look at the Classic stats on your BOINC account, you'll see that it clearly says: "SETI@home classic workunits as of 15 March 2005". This is because it's a database intensive process to bring over the stats. The databases are not dynamically connected. When the Classic side closes, the stats will again be brought over to the BOINC side of the project, and those numbers updated. NO CREDIT HAS BEEN OR WILL BE LOST. That said, if you are having difficulty getting BOINC operating, please let us know what problems you're seeing. An assist to getting you going can be found in the Installation Guide in the Wiki. Though it hasn't yet been updated for the changes in the BOINC v. 5.2.x series, it's still got some good information." MJ And the beat goes on Sonny and Cher BOINC Wiki |

Hi, first, I know this is the ANSWER THE QUESTION section, but how do you ASK A QUESTION? There seems to be no way to do this! Second, I've been involved in seti@home since 2000, but since March this year I haven't been able to send my completed work, or get new work! Now I find you've changed the system with new accounts and this BOINC thing (what ever that means). I've downloaded BOINC, activated my acount, and received my account key, but it still doesn't work! I tried to link the new account to my seti@home clasic account, but I can't remember my old pasword. I tried to start a new account, but I'm told it can't do that because my email address is still in use by my old account!!!!!!!! I've done over 17,000 hours and I'd like to keep going - but you're not making it easy for me! Tell me what I've gotta do! Peter (very frustrated) |

The Wiki has editors that were invited by Paul Buck to help out. For everyone else it's closed, if only to make sure someone can't go in there in a bad mood and delete everything. The list of people who can edit the Wiki can be found here: http://boinc-doc.net/boinc-wiki/index.php?title=Special:Listusers We mostly use the same names as on the forums. So yes, I can edit the Wiki. Want anything added or edited? :) |

Is it just me, or is there really no way for a newcomer to add to or edit this wiki? |
