The (very good) manual for Boinc is the BoincWiki by Pall D. Buck and Friends.

A quick installation guide in this is here.

For information regarding Credits look here!

The following is borrowed by Kinhull, please read as well:
(some links are broken, sorry for that)

Copied from Help For Newbies Here

If you are a newbie to SETI or BOINC and you've accidentally
stumbled onto this post, I hope that you find some items in here useful:

Apologies in advance if:

there's nothing here of use, there are any errors or incorrect statements
- I've simply put this here for my own amusement.

This post is hopefully a tidied up version of:
Step by Step Instructions Here

************************
First off I'd like to point out these two sticky post by Saenger

If you need help, look first in this thread. Lot's of answers here!

Need help? Go here!

************************
For getting BOINC up and running go to Paul D Buck's: Step-by-Step Instructions

Also have a look at

BOINCWiki
, FAQ BOINCand BOINC Documentation

Below are hopefully some of the more useful threads if you already have a Seti
Classic account:

SETI@home's transition to BOINC

Credits ... How do i get credit for the old stuff

The credit isn't transferred over
because they are calculated differently, but the Classic scores are
kept and displayed.

How is Credit calculated?

Questions about Credit

About the Seti Classic Credit system

Missing classic account

You do get to keep
your old classic scores, have a look at the link below:

What about my credit from the original SETI@Home program?

To see an example of how my
SetiClassic scores are displayed, look

here
.

You'll need to activate your account
with SetiBoinc, go to

Activate Account
.

If you don't have a Classic
account you need to go to

Create Account

Can't Remember Seti Classic Password?

Go here to obtain Seti Classic
Password:

Seti@Home User Account Area

Please also
note the If you don't know your password,

Dr. Anderson is the next step if
people cannot do this either. He is the only person that can reset the
password if the person has lost both the password and the email account they
signed up with.

His email address is: Dr. David P.
Anderson Director and architect. Contact him at davea at ssl.berkeley.edu

Thanks

mikey
for pointing this out

Then go here to:

Activate Seti BOINC Account

Apologies in advance for any repetition in links..

**************************
If you're not getting any of the answers you're looking for, try

Message Search
which searches all Seti forums including this one.

And whilst you're about it, it couldn't do any harm to do a search of the

BOINCWiki
, FAQ BOINC
and
BOINC Documentation

I would like to point out that a lot of

newbie
question have
already been asked and answered
,or at least discussed.

The problem is that every other person asks the same question in a slightly
different
way and so may not easily recognise that a solution or solutions
provided could actually apply to them also.

So what to do?

Learn how to do a search: the more you do it the easier it gets and the more
proficient you become.

You will have little choice but to wade through loads of links that (at first
glance)
don't seem to be related to your query, but as you become better at
refining your search you will get fewer and more appropriate links.

Learning something new is always difficult at first, but after a while you wont
believe that you didn't get it first time. But you have to make
the initial effort if you want to understand/learn.

************************
Here is another useful link if you seem to be having problems connecting:

BOINC Project
Status Page

Thanks to
cjmweb_uk

And I'd like to draw your attention to the message "This page was last modified
on...." just in case it is 'stuck' and has not been updated recently.

************************
If you're looking for a way to see your STATS, compare them to other
peoples, etc, then go to
BOINCstats.com

Just enter your username in the Search user or team box.

There are other places that do them aswell, find them with

Google

************************

If you want to set up the screen saver, go here:

Screen Saver Set-Up

As far as I am aware, the Seti screen saver app downloads
automatically once Boinc is connected to the Seti Web site, you don't have to
download it separately. Though the screen saver doesn't work if you install/run
Boinc as a service.

If you want to check the screen saver go to the work tab in Boinc
Manager, click on the project that is currently running, and then click
on the show graphics button.

Some potential reasons as to why you may not get any Graphics/ScreenSaver to
work, see

Graphics

Some of the projects don't yet
have graphics.

The graphics do not work with the
optimized apps/clients. If you need to have them, you will have to revert to one
of the recommended BOINC versions with the regular 4.09 science app

Sometimes I think we are alone in the universe, and sometimes I think we are not. In either case the idea is quite staggering.

Orionshine, can you please post a new thread in this forum and describe what you have done?
How does it not start, what error messages you get, either in Windows or in the Boinc Manager's Messages tab?

Whenever I click on the BOINC Manager it always says disconnected. What do I need to make it connect to the local network. I don't think this is working.

I recently downloaded and installed BOINC, but have no idea how to participate in SETI@home using BOINC. I have not been able to find any instructions on how to participate in the project. Selecting "Attach to new Project" brings up a box that requests URL and Account Key. I have my account key, but cannot find the URL to use for the SETI@home project. Anyone know where to find this URL?

I have the same problem. The Boinc software downloaded 20 MB of something, but everytime when I´m loocking on the transfer screen, it seems to hanging. Everytime it is downloading the seti.exe file. I installed like descriped and found no errors.

I´m working since years with the old Seti software versions. I never had such a bullsh... before. I looked on the Wiki information and didn´t find any help for this problem. If I didn´t get a running installation next week, I will stop Seti on my systems.

You aren't running Windows since long, are you? Ever thought of going through Start->Programs->BOINC ??

Anyway, the next time you reinstall, use the option in the install sequence to start BOINC when Windows starts. Or put a shortcut to boincmgr.exe in your Start->Programs->Startup folder. Or put a shortcut to boincmgr.exe on your desktop.
