I have preferences set to: Don't do work all the time Do work after being idle for 5 minutes Manager set to "Run based on preferences" Screen saver active after 10 minutes So shouldn't BOINC start working after 5 minutes (with desktop still active) and the "classic" screen save start after 10 minutes? Instead, if I watch the "work" tab in BOINC manager, the work unit stays at "Activities Suspended", and when teh screen saver kicks in the BOINC logo and "BOINC is currently suspended" appears. What am I dong wrong..... Cheers |

Sounds like you have things set up right. The only thing I can think of is you are running as a service you may need to change the service creditials and allow interation with the desktop. BOINC WIKI BOINCing since 2002/12/8 |

You haven't by chance set up a time limit on when BOINC can run have you? |

Go into your preferences and cut and paste them in this post, may be we can figure it out with that........ I know one thing I never run the screen saver using to many cycles and causes other problems..... Semper Eadem So long Paul, it has been a hell of a ride. Go into your preferences and cut and paste them in this post, may be we can figure it out with that........ Although I am a different user, I am having the same exact problem. Here a copy of the messages BIONIC reported: 7/15/2005 10:07:11 AM||Suspending computation and network activity - user is active 7/15/2005 10:07:11 AM|SETI@home|Pausing result 16ja05ab.8978.11872.840898.56_3 (removed from memory) 7/15/2005 10:07:12 AM||request_reschedule_cpus: process exited 7/15/2005 10:12:12 AM||Resuming computation and network activity 7/15/2005 10:12:12 AM||request_reschedule_cpus: Resuming activities 7/15/2005 10:12:12 AM|SETI@home|Restarting result 16ja05ab.8978.11872.840898.56_3 using setiathome version 4.18 7/15/2005 10:12:15 AM||Suspending computation and network activity - user is active 7/15/2005 10:12:15 AM|SETI@home|Pausing result 16ja05ab.8978.11872.840898.56_3 (removed from memory) 7/15/2005 10:12:15 AM||request_reschedule_cpus: process exited 7/15/2005 10:17:16 AM||Resuming computation and network activity 7/15/2005 10:17:16 AM||request_reschedule_cpus: Resuming activities 7/15/2005 10:17:16 AM|SETI@home|Restarting result 16ja05ab.8978.11872.840898.56_3 using setiathome version 4.18 7/15/2005 10:17:16 AM||Suspending computation and network activity - user is active 7/15/2005 10:17:16 AM|SETI@home|Pausing result 16ja05ab.8978.11872.840898.56_3 (removed from memory) 7/15/2005 10:17:17 AM||request_reschedule_cpus: process exited Now let me give you a break down on the time line: 10:07 - I was running BIONIC all of the time, regardless of prefferences, but I turned that off to test my prefferences again and produce the BIONIC messages so I could reply to this question. 10:12 - 5 min later, the computer is "idle" and according to my prefferences, BIONIC should start. It does go into screen saver mode, but the message keeps saying "BIONIC is suspended" According to the messages, it thinks the user is active, but I haven't touched the computer. 10:17 - It looks like BIONIC tries again after 5 min, but suspends immedeately thinking the user is active, when in fact the computer hasn't been touched yet. 10:19 - I move the mouse to bring the computer out of idle so I could read the messages. |

Although I am a different user, I am having the same exact problem. [...] So have I. The problem appeared with either BOINC 4.25 or 4.43 (I think - my memory is dynamic, with no refresh...). Until then the "idle" function worked fine, but after upgrading to whatever BOINC version it was, it stopped working. Note that I changed no settings what so ever, not knowingly any way, all I did was install the new BOINC version (on a Win XP home computer). After that I have to manually set "Run always" or "Suspend" in the manager File menu. |

Go to your general preferences, edit preferences. Set "Do work while computer is in use?" to Yes. Set "Do work only between the hours of" to 0:00 and 0:00 hours. Set "Use network only between the hours of " to 0:00 and 0:00 hours. Press Update preferences. Open BOINC Manager. Navigate to the Projects tab. Press once on the Seti@Home project to select it. Press the Update button. Check if your Run options are set to Run based on preferences. Wait and see... it'll work when you work with your computer. It'll work when you do not work with your computer. |

In addition to Jord's recommendations: check in the tab "Messages" that your preferences have been changed. This should look like 10/10/2005 19:41:48|SETI@home|General preferences have been updated Read the News at the homepage Have a look at the Technical News Look if your question is not answered at the Boinc Wiki Best greetings, Thierry |
