I'm having the exact same problem....can't get WU and my old SETI Client won't work for some reason.

Someone please tell me there is a more PERMANENT solution than trying to manually update this thing everytime I think about it......because I don't have time to sit here and click update over and over again HOPEING I get a 10 minute message.

I mean, it seems to me BOINC is hurting the SETI cause, not helping, because I see at least 2 users who CAN'T do anything this morning.

Yes, that definitely is not a good thing to have to do all the time. It's not even working for me this morning, I can get the 10 min message but I still can't get any work... :(

Perhaps you could let BOINC do it's job and connect back to the server when it's ready? That sounds pretty permenant.

I actually went to the front page this time.this is what it said.

July 19, 2004
Sometime between 5pm and 12am PDT, the splitters seem to have stopped producing new workunits. We have restarted the splitters and they are back to creating new workunits.

Where's the update button/command/thing to be found? When I click on the Boinc icon in the systray I only get a large window with five tabs; Projects, Work, Transfers, Messages and Disk. The menu commands are File, Settings and Help but alas Update is not to be found under any of them.

Sorry about the six postings. Clicked the button too many times as thought nothing was happening. Would still like to know how to update though if anyone can tell me. Also if anyone can tell me how to delete my postings I'd be grateful.

Ta and happy searching.

I don't use the windows client so I could be wrong, but I think you have to right click on the project name and choose update from there.

You can't completely delete the multiple posts, but you can edit the content out of the extras and just leave them blank. You can do this by choosing the "edit this post" link at the very top of each of your posts.

You will find it in the tab "Projects". If you point with the mouse over the project S@H and click with the right mouse button, a popup window will appear with a.o. "Update".

Greetings from Belgium.

I've got a machine here that has been attempting to get more work all day and I mean all day.
I checked on its status before I went to work at 8:30am this morning.
It had the messages:

No Work from project
Deferring Communication with project for 1hr

When I popped home at lunchtime today the same messages were scrolling through, sometimes deferred for longer, other times shorter.
It is now 22:20 on the same day, some 14hrs after I intially checked on this machine.
It's last attempt to talk to the server has resulted in:

Deferring Communication with project for 2hrs 2 minutes

However I've got other machines at work which don't seem to be having any issues and are happily getting work units and have been throughout the day, however this one here, the one I'm using to type this message can get sod all.

It's not easy, even for people with DSL lines. It's useless having the machine up all day just for waiting for data. Ok, a little bit other stuff is running as well but the CPU is mostly idling when there's no seti running. I downgraded today from seti 4.00 to seti 3.08 (because no credits from 4.00 has been counted and someone in another thread told me that only 3.08 results will be counted) and still have not even one WU the whole day on 2 machines. If I recall the last weeks I'd say that there was half a week of computing and the rest was only waiting for WUs. What a messy project is growing out of the relatively good working classic seti...:(

Mermgfurt,

Udo
