Using BOINC (latest) with Tiger on a G4 iBook: My "claimed" credits are a great deal lower than actual. What does "claimed" mean? Why the disparity? Just curious. |

From what I have read the "cpu time" that your computer takes to complete a "work unit" figures in to what your credit turns out to be. But from what some others have posted there seems to be no set rules as to how they arrive at it. Unless someone can tell us more I've been just going with the flow:) |

The claimed credit is based upon the Whetstones and drystones that are calibrated by the BOINC client. You are claiming a higher credit, but the other computers are claiming lower credit because they are completing the work in half the time of yours. It is possible that they are running "optimized" SETI apps for windows. You can get an optimized Mac OS-X Seti app at: http://members.dslextreme.com/~readerforum/forum_team/boinc.html Scroll all the way down to the bottom of the page to get to the Alti-vec optimized SETI apps. This will speed up your crunch times significantly and your claimed credit will better match the other computers, but you will do more work and get more total awarded credit. The other items on that page are optimized BOINC clients. They will not change your crunch times any, but they will provide optimized benchmarks, which will result in higher claimed credit. However, as you have seen, having a higher claimed credit will not result in more credit. It may result in better estimated downloads and caches. Credit awarded, is the middle, of the first three units that validate. This is a deterence towards cheating. An optimized BOINC client will claim more credit, but won't get it unless all of the participants are running optimized BOINC clients. I know it seems complicated, but overall everyone gets treated equally. Essentially you are rewarded based upon the performance and actual work done by your computer. Makes me personally look like a slacker. :) |

Shaktai: You can get an optimized Mac OS-X Seti app at: I downloaded the app - but where do I put it, what do I name it so that the next time I start/login, that version will be used? Thanks |
